The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved a series of measures aimed at boosting tourism, improving ease of doing business and strengthening public welfare initiatives across the state.
A key decision was the approval of the Assam Tourism Accommodation (Development & Registration) Rules, 2026, which introduce a single-window registration system for hotels, resorts, guest houses, homestays, service apartments, tented accommodations and heritage properties.
The new rules also provide for automatic renewal of registrations every three years, significantly reducing compliance requirements and simplifying procedures for tourism operators and investors.
In another major reform, the Cabinet approved the automatic conversion of agricultural land for setting up micro enterprises, khadi units and solar power projects, eliminating the need for Deputy Commissioner’s approval and easing procedural hurdles.
According to reports, the government believes these measures will streamline regulatory processes, attract fresh investments in tourism infrastructure and create a more business-friendly environment in the state.
The decisions are seen as part of Assam’s broader strategy to accelerate infrastructure development, support entrepreneurship and lay the foundation for long-term economic growth while strengthening the state’s tourism sector.
