EaseMyTrip unveils Theerth Yatri Sewa Booth in Ayodhya for information & hotel bookings

EaseMyTrip.com, one of India’s leading travel tech platforms, through its spiritual tourism initiative EasyDarshan, has partnered with the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) to inaugurate the Theerth Yatri Sewa Booth at Lata Mangeshkar Chowk.

This landmark initiative aims to enhance the pilgrimage experience in Ayodhya by offering comprehensive services to visitors and creating employment opportunities for local youth.

The Theerth Yatri Sewa Booth is strategically set up to guide and assist pilgrims visiting the Ram Lalla temple and other significant religious sites in Ayodhya. EasyDarshan, as EaseMyTrip dedicated spiritual tourism vertical, is bringing its expertise to ensure that pilgrims receive seamless support and access to essential services, making their visit memorable and hassle-free.

A major focus of this initiative is empowering the local community. By hiring and training local youth graduates from Ayodhya and nearby towns as “Theerth Sevaks,” the booth not only provides pilgrims with knowledgeable guides but also opens avenues for meaningful employment. The trained Sevaks will offer visitors insights into Ayodhya’s cultural, historical, and spiritual significance, enriching their experience while contributing to the local economy.

The booth offers a variety of services tailored to pilgrims’ needs, including detailed information about the Ram Lalla temple, assistance with Sugam Darshan bookings, special aarti arrangements, and wheelchair accessibility. EasyDarshan ensures that the booth staff is well-equipped with knowledge and expertise to provide accurate and helpful information, making it a reliable resource for visitors.

In addition to its role at the booth, EasyDarshan is collaborating with the Ayodhya Development Authority to address the rising demand for accommodations in the city. With the current hotel infrastructure unable to meet the needs of the increasing number of pilgrims, EasyDarshan is actively supporting the development of homestays in and around Ayodhya. This effort aims to provide comfortable, affordable lodging while promoting community participation in the growing tourism economy.

Ashwini Kumar Pandey, IAS, Vice Chairman of Ayodhya Development Authority, remarked, “We are thrilled to partner with EaseMyTrip and its spiritual tourism vertical, EasyDarshan, to redefine the pilgrimage experience in Ayodhya. The inauguration of the Theerth Yatri Sewa Booth reflects our shared vision of transforming Ayodhya into a globally recognized spiritual and cultural destination.

Rikant Pittie, CEO and Co-founder, EaseMyTrip.com, said, “We set up the Theerth Yatri Sewa Booth with the aim of making pilgrimages easier, more meaningful, and stress-free for devotees. Pilgrimages are deeply personal and spiritual journeys, and through EasyDarshan, we want to ensure they are as enriching as they are seamless. This isn’t just about offering services; it’s about enhancing the overall experience while supporting the local community. Ayodhya is a city filled with immense cultural and spiritual significance, and we’re truly honoured to contribute to its growth as a welcoming destination for pilgrims from all over.”

EasyDarshan will also assist ADA in managing large-scale events and festivals by providing manpower and logistical expertise, ensuring that Ayodhya continues to deliver a seamless experience during peak times.

Rajeev Kohli is an an experienced travel professional with over 2 decades of experience.

Rajeev Kohli elected to the SEPC Committee of Administration

Rajeev Kohli, Joint Managing Director of Creative Travel, has been elected to the Committee of Administration of India’s prestigious Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC).

Representing Tourism Services at the national level, Kohli will join a distinguished panel of 10 members from diverse service sectors, including healthcare, education, logistics, IT, and entertainment, to drive India’s service export agenda.

The Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) is an apex trade body in India established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to promote the export of services. It plays a pivotal role in advancing India’s position as a global hub for service-based industries, including tourism, healthcare, IT, education, entertainment, and legal services. SEPC facilitates international trade by organizing trade fairs, buyer-seller meets, and policy advocacy. It provides a crucial platform for service exporters to connect with global markets, fostering partnerships and boosting India’s export competitiveness.

Aligned with the Ministry of Commerce’s objectives, SEPC contributes to India’s economic growth by driving service sector exports, which constitute a significant portion of the country’s GDP. It also assists exporters in navigating global regulations, ensuring that Indian services meet international standards, thereby enhancing India’s reputation as a provider of quality and innovation-driven services globally.

Talking about this development, Kohli said, “I am truly delighted and honoured to have this opportunity. Taking the agenda of tourism growth directly to the Ministry of Commerce opens new avenues for me to voice opinions with national decision-makers. I have long admired the work SEPC does and look forward to contributing to the council during my term. My objectives include increasing membership from the tourism industry by highlighting the council’s value, collaborating with colleagues across the tourism sector to capture their insights and incorporate them into our strategy, and developing a plan to expand the tourism industry’s contribution to the economy. SEPC has a highly qualified professional team that is supportive of tourism, and I aim to harness that to advance the tourism agenda.”

He has held numerous national and international volunteer roles, including being the first President from Asia of the global Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE), as well as serving as President of Euromic, the MICE industry’s oldest DMC association.

With his extensive experience and leadership in the tourism sector, Kohli’s election to the SEPC is expected to bring valuable insights and momentum to the council’s efforts in promoting India’s services exports, particularly in tourism.

WTTC and VFS Global have been collaborating on many destination focused studies on travel and tourism impact.

Indian tourism sector to double in 10yrs: WTTC

The Indian tourism sector is expected to double in size to USD 523 billion in the next 10 years, according to World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) President and CEO Julia Simpson.

WTTC works with governments on issues of the travel and tourism industry, and is the global authority on the economic and social contribution of the sector.

“The travel and tourism sector employs 45 million people in India, and is going to double in its value. In 10 years, the sector is going to be worth USD 523 billion in India, more than double the present size of USD 256 billion,” Simpson told PTI in an interview.

“In 10 years, the tourism sector in India will be providing jobs to 63 million people,” she said.

India is one of the most beautiful and amazing countries in the world, Simpson said. Tourists and visitors across the centuries have been attracted to its shores and wonderful cities. India continues to welcome the world with open arms and the Indian hospitality is incredible, she added.

“Tourism represents about seven per cent of the Indian economy and in 2019 it was about USD 211 billion. Now it is about USD 256 billion and gives jobs to 45 million people in India,” she said.

“If you look at the impact of tourism in terms of the greenhouse gas emissions on India, it represents about five per cent of all India’s greenhouse gas emissions and that’s probably about 250 billion kilos of carbon (dioxide) every year. That is actually the biggest greenhouse gas emission in the tourism sector after the US and China,” she said.

The good news is that while the tourism sector has been growing, the greenhouse gas emissions haven’t been growing as fast, she said. That means India is becoming more and more efficient for travel and tourism, she added.

“We are also keen to talk to the Indian government to ensure that it is reaching out to the aviation sector to help produce more sustainable aviation fuel because we can’t really do tourism without aviation,” Simpson said.

“We need the aviation sector. We will have more people travelling by air and we need to do that more sustainably. And the only real opportunity right now is through sustainable aviation fuel. So we really encourage the Indian government to incentivise its production,” she said.

Asked if WTTC has approached the Indian government to take measures to ensure sustainable and eco-friendly tourism, Simpson said, “Well, we do meet Indian ministers on a regular basis, mostly at the big events like the World Travel Market, and I always raise these issues.”

“The great thing about the travel and tourism sector is that it employs high-end people like engineers, AI experts, technology, experts, financial and marketing experts. We also employ people for whom it may be their first job or it may be an opportunity to lift them out of an informal economy and work in a formal sector,” she said.

Almost 50 per cent of global tourism happens near coastal resorts and areas close to sea, she said. People want to see the pristine beaches and go for amazing water sports. However, coastal areas are very vulnerable to global warming, in terms of dangerous weather changes and rising sea levels, she added.

The WTTC recently released a report about measures to help protect coastal areas, she said. “If you look at places like Miami, they have been investing a lot in reinforcing their coastal area. They have good alarm systems and also build infrastructure that resists some of these very challenging weather events.

There are examples around the world on how countries can strengthen their travel and tourism sector, she said. “Tourists don’t want to see a lot of concrete; what they want to see is the natural India around its coastline, with beautiful natural beaches, flora and fauna.

“We would like to work with the Indian government to help restore some of the natural flora. One big message for India is about decarbonizing road transport as quickly as possible,” she said.

“I know Prime Minister Modi has made it one of his top priorities to try and clean up air pollution. And a part of that includes moving away from coal fired plants and investing more in solar and renewable energy. Under PM Modi’s leadership, India is going to be one of the most advanced developing economies in the world,” Simpson said. (Source: PTI)

With this development, Maldives will see a booming cruise market.

Cruise liners return to the Maldives following regulatory amendments

After a prolonged hiatus, cruise liners have resumed operations in the Maldives, with the arrival of Aida Bella, a German-operated vessel, near Malé harbour. This marks the start of the season, bringing over 2,000 tourists to the capital.

The Maldives Association of Yacht Agents (MAYA) has announced that two more cruise liners are expected later this month, with an anticipated influx of up to 12,000 tourists by January.

The return of cruise liners follows recent amendments to regulations governing the operation and mooring of tourist vessels.

These changes restrict foreign agencies from acting as agents for yachts and cruise liners, allowing only Maldivian-owned companies, partnerships, or sole proprietorships to handle such services.

Tourists arriving on yachts or cruise liners can participate in excursions led by licensed guides, as mandated by the Tour Guides Regulations.

Vessels wishing to extend their stay in the Maldives are subject to a daily fee of USD 100.

Ships accommodating additional passengers must secure a passenger license through their Maldivian agent.

These measures aim to strengthen local involvement in the tourism sector, improve regulatory oversight, and enhance the overall tourist experience. The Maldives’ cruise liner sector is poised for a revival, contributing significantly to the nation’s economy and tourism industry.
