IndiGo announces new daily flights to enhance connectivity between India and Middle East

IndiGo has announced operation of new daily flights between Abu Dhabi-Hyderabad, Chennai-Muscat, and Abu Dhabi-Chennai, effective March 26, 2023. Operations of these flights will provide more options to customers planning vacations and business trips to and from the Middle East.

Air India adds 24 new flights on its domestic network

Air India announced an increase of 24 new flights on its domestic network with effect from August 20, 2022. The expansion in its domestic connectivity will cater to growing traffic between India’s major metros and facilitate convenient travel over the upcoming festive season. The strengthening of domestic connectivity has been enabled as more aircraft return to service.

The additional 24 flights include two new frequencies from Delhi to Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, and from Mumbai to Chennai and Hyderabad, as well as one new frequency on the Mumbai – Bengaluru route and Ahmedabad – Pune route.

These additions will provide flyers more travel options between key metros in the late afternoon and evening, and take Air India’s daily frequencies to 10 flights each way between Delhi – Mumbai, 7 flights each way between Delhi – Bengaluru, 4 flights each way between Mumbai – Bengaluru, and Mumbai – Chennai and 3 flights each way on Mumbai – Hyderabad and Delhi – Ahmedabad routes.

Commenting on the network expansion, Campbell Wilson, MD and CEO, Air India, said, “This expansion bolsters connectivity between key metros, and improves connectivity between Air India’s domestic and international networks. Over the past six months, Air India has been working closely with our partners to return aircraft to service, and we are delighted that this effort is now bearing fruit.”

Air India’s narrowbody fleet currently stands at 70 aircraft, of which 54 are currently serviceable. The remaining 16 aircraft will progressively return to service by early 2023.

Six air routes inaugurated to enhance connectivity of Northeast India

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, MoS, Civil Aviation, General Dr V K Singh (Retd.) along with Rajeev Bansal, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) virtually flagged off 6 routes expanding the aerial connectivity of North-East India.

The routes commencing operations from today are Kolkata – Guwahati, Guwahati – Aizawl, Aizawl – Shillong, Shillong – Aizawl, Aizawl – Guwahati, and Guwahati – Kolkata.

Scindia said, “Mizoram is the gateway to North-East India. The city has an immense amount of importance for its tourism & economic sector. We are committed to giving wings to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of making it possible that every state’s uniqueness must be experienced by all citizens of the country. I assure you, that MoS General Dr. V K Singh (Retd.) and I will personally visit Mizoram very soon.”

The minister further mentioned, “I am delighted to mention the fact that Alliance Air’s most ATR aircraft are deployed on the North-Eastern routes. Today, we are further establishing seamless connectivity across entire North-East India by connecting 4 cities with one flight. This underlines the due importance given to the North-East by the Ministry of Civil Aviation under the leadership of our Prime Minister.

“Under the UDAN scheme,we have connected cities that had no mention on the aviation map of the country. We have already started 60 airports, and 387 routes, out of which 100 routes are awarded in North East alone, & 50 are already operational. Moreover, in 2014, only 6 airports were operational in North East, now we have grown to 15 airports in a short span of 7 years.

“Therefore, this further highlights the due importance of the North-Eastern states for this government. In addition to this, under the KRISHI UDAN Yojna, we have identified 16 airports to enhance the export opportunities of the region establishing dual benefits of enhancement of cargo movements and exports.”

With these new flights, travellers from Guwahati, Aizawl and Shillong will get multiple options for onward connectivity to the rest of the country. (Source The Statesman)

SriLankan Airlines enhances connectivity to Sri Lanka from key Indian cities

SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka in a bid to promote greater travel opportunities from India to Sri Lanka, announced strengthening its presence in India with more destinations and frequencies offering travellers to enjoy the freedom of travel.

Currently, SriLankan Airlines operates four flights a week from Chennai, three flights a week from Mumbai, and once a week from Bangalore to its hub in Colombo. To strengthen ongoing operations SriLankan will be introducing a host of frequency enhancements out of key Indian cities into Colombo effective September 1, 2021. At present, India accounts for over 120 million fully vaccinated citizens which has resulted in the reawakening interest in travel.

According to the press release, from September, the airline will be resuming services between Colombo and the Indian points; Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Trivandrum and Cochin with flights once a week, whilst Hyderabad and New Delhi will be connected to Colombo with twice-weekly flights.

Further, the airlines’ operations out of Chennai and Mumbai will expand up to five times a week whilst its Bangalore-Colombo services will be enhanced to flights three times a week.

Before the outbreak of the pandemic, the airline operated an extensive network out of 11 Indian cities over 120 flights a week to Colombo, connecting travellers to the island and beyond.

The airline aims to provide maximum flexibility and a wider choice in terms of travel with the enhanced frequencies and anticipates welcoming its valued customers aboard from the country’s closest neighbour.
