The Uttar Pradesh government has announced an ambitious plan to transform Gautam Buddha Nagar into a model for urban and experiential tourism under the Centre’s ‘One State, One Global Destination’ initiative. The proposal, unveiled by State Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh at the Tourism Ministers’ Conference in Udaipur, positions the district as a future hub for modern tourism, combining business, leisure, and sustainability.
According to official sources, the plan envisions Gautam Buddha Nagar as a world-class MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination supported by strong medical and hospitality tourism. A major highlight of the proposal is the establishment of India’s first Climate Change Museum near the Okhla Bird Sanctuary, aimed at raising awareness and attracting eco-conscious travellers.
The state government also plans to create a hospitality hub spread across nearly 100 acres near Noida’s IT City through a public-private partnership (PPP) model. This hub will host luxury hotels, wellness retreats, and modern recreation spaces, positioning Noida as a magnet for international events and business conferences.
In addition to urban infrastructure, the plan focuses on promoting medical tourism by expanding high-end health and wellness facilities. A state-of-the-art convention centre, with a capacity of around 1,000 people, is also proposed to accommodate major exhibitions, conferences, and public programmes, further strengthening the region’s reputation as a global business destination.
The proposed Climate Change Museum will serve as an immersive learning space highlighting environmental challenges and sustainable practices. Alongside this, the Okhla Bird Sanctuary will be enhanced as part of an integrated eco-tourism circuit, blending urban development with conservation to create a holistic travel experience.
Beyond Gautam Buddha Nagar, the Uttar Pradesh government is considering Kalinjar Fort and Siddharthnagar (Buddhist tourism) for development in later phases of the ‘One State, One Global Destination’ project. According to Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat, the state aims to evolve from being a primarily spiritual tourism hub to a modern, comprehensive destination appealing to every kind of traveller.
