Chalo India campaign taps Indian diaspora

The Chalo India campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to strengthen tourism by engaging the Indian diaspora to invite foreign friends to experience the grandeur of Incredible India. The initiative, introduced in London, incentivises diaspora members to promote India as a travel destination, with rewards for successfully bringing non-Indian visitors to the country.

As part of the program, diaspora members can encourage an unlimited number of foreign friends, though a minimum of five invitations is recommended. Visitors who accept the invitation are entitled to a free visa, facilitated by a unique code provided by the recommender. Rewards for diaspora members include priority immigration clearance or a ceremonial airport welcome upon their return to India, as per options under consideration by the Ministry of Tourism.

The Chalo India portal serves as a hub for diaspora members to register, track their contributions, and claim rewards. This platform enhances engagement by providing real-time updates and ensuring transparency in the reward process. The program not only incentivises global tourism but also strengthens cultural and emotional ties between the diaspora and their homeland.

With this campaign, India’s tourism sector envisions a global boost, leveraging the influence of the Indian diaspora. By showcasing the country’s rich heritage, vibrant culture, and incredible landscapes, Chalo India positions India as a top global travel destination, aligning with the government’s vision to expand its tourism footprint worldwide.
