By May 1, Mumbaikars and nature lovers could experience the breathtaking beauty of Gorai Creek from a newly constructed watchtower within the creek. A major highlight of the Mangrove Park, developed by the Mangroves Foundation of the Maharashtra Forest Department, is a 740-metre-long boardwalk that winds through the dense mangrove forest, offering visitors a closer look at this crucial ecosystem. With over 90% of the work completed, the park is on track to open on State Formation Day.
Deepak Khade, Divisional Forest Officer of the Mangrove Cell-Mumbai, emphasised that the project’s goal is to educate the public about the importance of mangroves and biodiversity. The park will feature a nature interpretation centre, a bird observation watchtower, and guided trails to enhance visitor engagement. The multi-level nature interpretation centre is also progressing rapidly, ensuring an immersive educational experience.
Spanning eight hectares, the park is a sustainable initiative, with the boardwalk constructed without cutting down a single tree. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in bird observatory sessions and guided mangrove trails, led by expert naturalists who will provide insights into the vital role of mangroves in coastal ecosystems.
Once operational, Gorai Mangrove Park will serve as a unique eco-tourism destination, combining conservation, education, and sustainable tourism, making it a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts, students, and nature lovers alike.
