The Goa government has launched the Goa State Amritkal Agricultural Policy 2025, aiming to protect agricultural land, promote agri-tourism, and support new cash crops like avocado and grapefruit. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasised the policy’s goal of transforming agriculture into a modern, sustainable, and inclusive sector while preserving traditional practices.
The policy focuses on supply chain infrastructure to reduce post-harvest losses, vertical farming techniques like hydroponics, and climate-resilient farming. Farmers with 4,000+ sqm of land can participate in agri-tourism under strict zoning rules. The policy also proposes subsidies for land owned by temples, churches, and societies while penalising agricultural pollution.
A Farmer Welfare Fund Board and a Goa Farmers Welfare Act will ensure livelihood security. The government will also establish the Goa State Coconut, Cashew, and Mango Development Board and introduce innovative financing models like micro-financing and crowdfunding to support agricultural entrepreneurs.
