Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is set to unveil the ‘Harit Nauka’ guidelines alongside the official ‘River Cruise Tourism Roadmap’, according to an official statement. Scheduled for today, the event will gather key stakeholders from waterway states and the central government. The agenda includes the expected signing of several memoranda of understanding to bolster cooperation in advancing inland waterways and related sectors.
The focus will revolve around fairway development, engaging the private sector, implementing best practices, enhancing cargo transport efficiency in inland water transport, promoting and developing eco-friendly vessels for passenger transportation, and exploring the economic prospects of river cruise tourism.
In West Bengal, the Sagarmala Programme is actively propelling maritime development, featuring 62 projects worth INR 16,300 crores. Additionally, the minister will participate in the inaugural meeting of the inland waterways development council in Kolkata.
