Qantas announces its return to India from December

Qantas, the Australian carrier, will start non-stop services to India after a decade. From December 6, Qantas will have three-weekly flights between Delhi-Sydney. The airline will use its Airbus A330, which will become a daily flight by the end of the year. “This is subject to discussions with Indian authorities to finalise necessary approvals. The flights would initially operate until at least late March 2022, with a view to continuing if there is sufficient demand.Flights from Sydney to Delhi would operate via Darwin, while flights from Delhi to Sydney would operate non stop,” the release said.

The planned reopening of most state borders will allow Qantas to bring its 22,000 employees back to work in December, and add more flights on domestic routes, the airline said. Qantas will also start flying to other international destinations like Singapore, Fiji and South Africa.

Alan Jose, Group CEO, Qantas, said, “Australians rolling up their sleeves means our planes and our people are getting back to work much earlier that we expected.” He also added, “We know that Australians are keen to get overseas and see friends and family or have a long-awaited holiday, so bringing forward the restart of flights to these popular international destinations will give customers even more options to travel this summer.”
