Jamaica’s tourism sector is poised for robust expansion as global travel rebounds, with projections indicating 1.5 billion travellers by year-end and nearly 3 billion within the next two decades. Tourism Minister Hon. Edmund Bartlett emphasised strategic initiatives to ensure Jamaica remains a premier destination amid growing global competition.
Speaking at the 63rd Annual General Meeting of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), Minister Bartlett highlighted the importance of innovation and adaptability. He urged tourism stakeholders to align with emerging trends, enhance capacity, and prioritise exceptional service to capture a larger share of the rising travel wave.
In a bid to tap into new markets, Jamaica will launch a marketing campaign in India, one of the fastest-growing economies globally. Scheduled for Q1 2025, the roadshow aims to position Jamaica within Asia-Pacific’s rapidly expanding outbound tourism sector. Bartlett noted, “India is on track to become the second most powerful economy within a few years. Jamaica must seize this opportunity to grow its presence.”
To support these ambitions, the government has committed JMD 1 billion to marketing efforts through the fiscal year. Additionally, plans for a fourth international airport in Negril and a hotel boom are underway. Spanish hospitality group Princess Hotels & Resorts has inaugurated two luxury all-inclusive properties, Princess Senses The Mangrove and Princess Grand Jamaica, signaling increased investment in the sector.
With strategic investments and marketing efforts, Jamaica is well-prepared to capitalise on global travel growth, solidifying its position as a leading tourism hub.
