Indian travellers redefine hotel industry

SiteMinder’s Changing Traveller Report 2025 reveals that Indian travellers are leading the transformation of the global hotel industry. Based on responses from over 12,000 participants across 14 key tourism markets, the report highlights how Indian guests are redefining hotel expectations with their evolving preferences, giving rise to the ‘everything traveller’ – a new blend of modern and traditional behaviors shaping the future of hospitality.

Key findings reveal that Indian travellers demand top-notch digital booking experiences, with 65% having abandoned bookings due to slow websites, complex payment systems, or security concerns. Social media and online forums are becoming primary sources for hotel searches, making a strong digital presence and reputation management crucial for hotels catering to Indian guests. Furthermore, Indian travellers are opting for eco-friendly accommodations and premium room packages, with 92% willing to pay more for sustainable options and 79% likely to book rooms as part of travel packages.

Travel for events and dynamic pricing are also significant trends. Driven by family celebrations and weddings, 89% of Indian travellers will journey for events in 2025, and 84% support pricing adjustments during peak times. Additionally, Indian guests are expected to lead globally in time spent on site, with 80% planning to stay longer at hotels and 74% willing to spend more on accommodation. Preferences for experiences such as yoga classes (44%) and cultural cooking sessions (40%) offer hoteliers further revenue-maximising opportunities.

SiteMinder’s Asia Pacific Vice President, Bradley Haines, emphasises the importance of adapting to these nuanced demands. Hotels in top destinations like Australia, the US, UAE, Canada, and the UK must harness technology and data-driven insights to anticipate the preferences of the increasingly influential Indian traveller. This demographic’s growing complexity and global presence are reshaping the industry, making it essential for hotels to deliver personalised and holistic guest experiences in 2025 and beyond.
