Hong Kong has officially been selected as the host city for Routes World 2025. Set to unfold from September 24th to 26th, 2025, the event will be held at AsiaWorld-Expo, under the auspices of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) with support from the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
Routes World serves as a pivotal gathering, bringing together key decision-makers from airlines, airports, and destinations worldwide. The forthcoming 30th edition anticipates participation from Vice Presidents and Heads of Network Planning representing over 260 prominent and burgeoning airlines globally.
The significance of enhanced air connectivity in driving economic growth cannot be overstated. Independent analyses underscore that a typical Routes World event generates an economic impact surpassing USD 590 million, primarily attributed to the acquisition of new air services catalysed by the event’s prominence.
HKIA has recently witnessed remarkable passenger growth, with March 2024 statistics revealing a 56.7% year-on-year surge in passenger traffic and a 48.2% increase in flight movements.
The imminent completion of the Three-runway System (3RS) by the end of 2024 underscores HKIA’s steadfast commitment to fostering air travel growth. The airport’s strategic vision post-3RS completion revolves around enticing airlines to explore new destinations, capitalising on the market potential of the Greater Bay Area and Mainland China, and unlocking connectivity to emerging markets like Belt and Road Initiative countries and the Middle East.
Commenting on the announcement, Steven Small, Director, Routes, expressed elation at Hong Kong’s selection as the host city for Routes World 2025 amidst fierce competition. Highlighting Hong Kong’s strategic positioning, Small emphasised its accessibility to half of the world’s population within a 5-hour flight radius, offering an ideal platform to showcase pivotal infrastructure developments to global aviation stakeholders.
Vivian Cheung, COO, Airport Authority Hong Kong, lauded Routes World as a premier international platform uniting over 3,000 industry leaders. She underscored Hong Kong’s commitment to fortifying its status as an international aviation hub and fostering connectivity, cultural diversity, and economic vibrancy.
Cheung extended a warm invitation to global guests to explore Hong Kong and expressed optimism that the event would pave the way for the establishment of new routes, enriching the city’s connectivity with diverse destinations.
