Karnataka clears new Tourism Policy; eyes INR 1,500cr investments

The Karnataka Cabinet yesterday cleared the new Tourism Policy for the state, with the government eyeing investments to the tune of INR 1,500 crore in the sector.

Karnataka plans to attract 20 lakh foreign tourists a year to be among the top five states in this category, and with respect to domestic footfalls it wants to be among the top three states with a target of 48 crore local tourists, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

“The Cabinet after detailed discussion has given its nod to announce the Karnataka Tourism Policy 2024-29 and to release subsidies, grants under the policy,” Patil said. He further said the new tourism policy wants to promote tourism in the state under themes — adventure, agriculture, caravan, coastal, beach, cuisine, cultural, traditional, environment, education, film, golf, sports, tribal, wedding destination, health tourism among others.

“… apartment, hotel, service apartments, aquarium, beach shacks, amusement parks among 46 tourism projects have also been identified and special impetus will be given for tourism promotion among all these sectors,” he said.
Patil said the state government’s intention is to see an increase in influx of both foreign and domestic visitors.

“To be among the top five states which are destinations for foreign visitors, we must reach 20 lakh foreign visitors a year, our target is to reach a minimum 20 lakh… it is now about 12-14 lakh,” he noted.

“To become one among the top three destinations among the states for domestic footfall, the footfall in our existing tourism points should be about 48 crore a year, but we are now about 30-32 crore. We would make efforts in the next five years to reach 48 crore,” he added. (Source: PTI)

Azerbaijan Tourism, AZAL unveil exclusive Baku City Tour bus offers

Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) and Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) have announced a new joint programme to enhance the travel experience for visitors of Baku.

From September 29 to December 29, travellers arriving in Baku can use their AZAL boarding pass as a voucher to receive a 20% discount on Baku City Tour Bus tickets within 48 hours after their arrival to Azerbaijan. This initiative is part of a larger effort to promote seamless and convenient travel within the city.

AZAL, offering seamless and comfortable travel to Baku from more than 50 destinations worldwide, is committed to making the journey to Azerbaijan enjoyable to all visitors.

The Baku City Tour Bus, a popular hop-on hop-off service, offers an opportunity to explore the main attractions of Azerbaijan’s capital, with daily operations from 11:20 to 16:40. Covering 25 km in just 1.5 hours, the tour features an audio guide available in eight languages: Azerbaijani, Russian, English, German, French, Farsi, Italian, and Japanese.

Each ticket includes complimentary headphones, providing visitors with a wealth of information about Baku’s key tourist sites. The bus stops for two to three minutes at each of the 15 locations, allowing passengers to take photos and enjoy the city landscape. Those who wish to explore an area in more detail can hop off and rejoin the tour on the next bus, an hour later. The route includes key sites such as Port Baku Mall, Heydar Aliyev Centre, Museum of Modern Art, Maiden Tower, Flame Towers, and Highland Park among many others.

By combining air travel and local transportation benefits, this initiative aims to provide visitors with added value and a smoother transition from air to ground travel, encouraging more exploration of Baku’s attractions.

FLY91 starts direct flights from Pune to Goa & Jalgaon

With an eye on the rise in travel activities around the festive season of Diwali, FLY91, India’s pure play regional airline, has announced direct daily flights connecting Pune-Goa and Pune-Jalgaon since yesterday, significantly enhancing regional connectivity on the two routes.

The introduction of daily flights on the two routes will not only enhance connectivity to Pune, the cultural capital of Maharashtra, a centre for IT and ITES services and an education hub, but will also offer convenient direct outbound air-travel options for Pune-based residents.

The Pune-Goa route will facilitate ease of travel for students, leisure seekers and promote MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) tourism in Goa, a leading holiday destination.

The Pune-Jalgaon route will increase business and student travel, along with leisure traffic drawn to the Ajanta and Ellora caves, UNESCO-endorsed world heritage sites in Jalgaon.

Saudia has been gaining momentum especially after its rebranding.

Saudia records 10% growth in guest transportation during Q3, 2024

Saudia, the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, has reported significant growth in its operational performance for the third quarter of 2024, according to its latest performance report.

The airline transported over nine million guests, marking a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This achievement was aided by more than 49,500 flights, reflecting a 9% increase in flight operations. Additionally, Saudia logged 146,700 flight hours, representing an 11% increase over last year, with an impressive on-time performance rate of 87.8%.

Internationally, Saudia carried over five million guests, reflecting a 9% growth, and on more than 21,900 flights, a 5% increase compared to last year. The airline’s international fleet logged over 102,400 flight hours.
On the domestic front, Saudia served over four million guests, demonstrating a 12% increase, with more than 27,500 flights operated, marking a 13% increase. Domestic flight hours surpassed 44,200, with a commendable on-time performance rate of 91.5%.

From January to September 2024, Saudia successfully transported over 25.3 million guests across 143,800 flights. Looking ahead, the addition of 131 new aircraft to Saudia’s fleet will significantly expand flight offerings and seating capacity across its network of over 100 destinations spanning four continents. This growth will also introduce new international routes, aligning with the airline’s strategy to connect the world to the Kingdom and support the ambitious goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Ved Khanna succeeds PP Khanna as President of ADTOI

At the 2024 AGM of the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI), elections for the national office-bearers and Managing Committee were undertaken.

Largely peaceful in nature, the elections saw Ved Khanna of Tourwala Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., being elected as the new President, succeeding PP Khanna.

All the six office-bearers were also elected unopposed.

Rajat Sawhney from Rave Tours & Travels, and Aashish Sehgal from Hora Tourism & Consultancy Services will continue as Senior Vice President and Vice President, respectively.

Dalip Gupta of DGS Travel House has taken charge as General Secretary position and Manoj Varshney of Tulsi Travels Pvt. Ltd., as Treasurer, and Neetish Gupta from Sparrow Wing Travels, as Joint Secretary.
