Govt adds premium trains to LTC scheme

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has announced that travel under the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme will now include premium trains like Tejas Express, Vande Bharat Express, and Humsafar Express. This decision comes after consultation with the Department of Expenditure and addresses multiple references received regarding the admissibility of these trains. Previously, government employees could only travel under LTC using Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto trains.

LTC is a popular benefit for central government employees, offering reimbursement of travel expenses for both to-and-fro journeys and paid leave. By expanding the list of eligible trains, the government aims to provide more options to employees while ensuring comfort and faster travel. These premium trains are known for their state-of-the-art facilities and enhanced travel experiences, making them an ideal choice for long-distance journeys.

The inclusion of Tejas, Vande Bharat, and Humsafar trains reflects the government’s focus on improving employee satisfaction and keeping pace with India’s evolving rail infrastructure. This move not only modernises the LTC scheme but also boosts the utilisation of these premium trains, which have been integral to Indian Railways’ modernisation efforts.

Eligible government employees can now choose from a wider range of trains based on their entitlements, further enriching their travel experiences. The step aligns with the government’s broader initiatives to streamline benefits and make public services more accessible. The revised scheme is expected to encourage more employees to explore these upgraded travel options under LTC.
