United Airlines adds 8 destinations

United Airlines is expanding its international flight offerings with eight new destinations starting in May next year. Travellers flying from Newark, New Jersey, will have the opportunity to visit Bilbao, Spain; Faro, Portugal; and Palermo, Italy. The airline will also introduce flights to Madeira Island, Portugal, and Nuuk, Greenland, as well as service from Tokyo to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and from Washington, D.C. to Dakar. New connections from Washington, D.C. to Nice, France, and Venice, Italy, are also planned.

Additionally, United Airlines will introduce new routes from Tokyo to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and resuming flights to existing destinations such as Newark to Athens, Greece, and Dubrovnik, Croatia. This expansion is part of United’s largest international growth initiative, increasing the number of weekly flights and routes available. The airline’s new services are subject to government approval and will be available for booking on United’s website and mobile app.

In addition to its route expansion, United announced a collaboration with SpaceX’s Starlink to provide complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi, making it the largest internet deal for the satellite service. This move follows other airlines, such as Delta and JetBlue, which have also begun offering free onboard internet. United plans to equip over 1,000 aircraft with Starlink technology, providing gate-to-gate connectivity on domestic and international flights.

United emphasised the benefits of Starlink’s global coverage, particularly for long-haul flights over oceans and remote regions. The airline anticipates that the first passenger flights with Starlink Wi-Fi will begin early next year, with full implementation by late 2025. The service will allow passengers to connect multiple devices and ensure consistent, fast internet access throughout their journey.
