Tourism Malaysia is hopeful of reaching the 700,000-mark of inbound arrivals from India in 2022, and doubling that figure in 2023. Malaysia opened its borders in April last year, and till September the country had received 100,000 visitors from India.
Talking to TravelBiz Monitor, T. Ediwanto T. Eddie, Deputy Director, Tourism Malaysia, Mumbai, said, “We are hoping to double the tourist traffic from India in 2023, to 140,000 visitors. In just five months from April to September, we saw 100,000 visitors from India. For 2022, India ranked fourth on the top 10 source markets for Malaysia after Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. We want India to elevate its position in 2023.”
Tourism Malaysia recently conducted four-city roadshow in India in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Ahmedabad to revive arrivals from India, and reconnect with the agents. The roadshow witnessed 31 exhibitors from Malaysia.
Just last month, Malaysia has started multi-entry visa, especially benefitting VFR, and business travellers. Eddie said that one needs to apply at least two weeks in advance to avail the visa. He believes this visa service will aid travel.
