Saudia expands operations in Indian Market

 

Saudia, the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, is strengthening its commitment to India as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Operating since 1965, Saudia has been a trusted choice for Indian travellers, currently running 54 weekly flights across Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, and Kozhikode. With a target to attract 7.5 million Indian visitors annually by 2030, Saudia is set to transform its services to align with the evolving needs of Indian guests.

To elevate the travel experience, Saudia is increasing flight frequencies, modernising its services, and launching innovative solutions. The AI-powered Travel Companion platform simplifies booking hotels, transport, and activities, ensuring seamless journeys. Additionally, the revamped AlFursan loyalty program offers enhanced features, allowing travellers to manage rewards and upgrade memberships effortlessly.

Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, Saudia supports religious pilgrimages, business travel, and leisure tourism, contributing to the Kingdom’s goal of welcoming 330 million visitors by 2030. The addition of 105 new aircraft underscores Saudia’s commitment to connectivity and superior travel experiences, strengthening its pivotal role in driving tourism growth.

With its focus on India, innovative offerings, and expanded operations, Saudia aims to solidify its position as a premier Gulf carrier, fostering stronger ties between India and Saudi Arabia.

Sabre, Qantas extend multi-year distribution agreement

 

Sabre Corporation has strengthened its partnership with Qantas through an extended multi-year distribution agreement. This collaboration reaffirms Sabre’s role in offering comprehensive access to Qantas’ New Distribution Capability (NDC) content. By maintaining a broad range of travel options, this agreement ensures that travel agencies worldwide have enhanced flexibility in booking and servicing Qantas flights.

Kathryn Robertson, Qantas Executive Manager, Global Sales & Distribution, emphasised the importance of the renewed partnership. “Our collaboration with Sabre is crucial to delivering seamless shopping and booking experiences for both travelers and agencies. With Sabre’s global marketplace, we look forward to offering even greater flexibility and choice,” she noted, highlighting Qantas’ commitment to evolving retailing strategies to meet dynamic travel demands.

The partnership dates back to Sabre’s early adoption of Qantas’ NDC content in 2021, demonstrating a shared commitment to advancing travel distribution technologies. The renewed agreement grants Sabre-connected agents continued access to Qantas’ full spectrum of EDIFACT and NDC offers, ensuring a comprehensive range of options for their customers.

Chris Wilding, Senior Vice President of Air Distribution at Sabre, celebrated the partnership’s progression. “We are thrilled to be a trusted partner for Qantas, aligning with their strategy to provide enhanced personalisation and flexibility. Together, we aim to create a marketplace that meets the demands of today’s dynamic travel ecosystem,” he said, underlining the shared vision for innovation and growth.

Restaurant Botta reopens at Glacier 3000

 

In a much-anticipated comeback, Restaurant Botta has reopened at Glacier 3000 after a devastating fire in 2022. Officially inaugurated on November 14, 2024, the new architectural marvel, designed by renowned architect Mario Botta, blends modern elegance with the grandeur of the Swiss Alps. The establishment now features three unique dining experiences: the fine-dining Botta Restaurant, the casual Le 3 Restaurant, and the cozy, chalet-style Le Carnotzet, each offering something special for visitors.

The complex also boasts a 250-square-meter panoramic terrace accessible by lift, offering breathtaking views of the Alps. Beyond dining, the space is ideal for hosting events, meetings, and seminars, making it a versatile addition to Glacier 3000. The reopening has further cemented the destination’s reputation as a hub for culinary and scenic excellence.

On November 23, 2024, Vidhya Chettiar, Market Director of the Lake Geneva Region, and Bernhard Tschannen, CEO, Glacier 3000, hosted a grand event to celebrate the reopening of Restaurant Botta. The gathering welcomed over 100 industry leaders, including notable representatives such as Lorenza Scamara from Goldenpass Train and Martin Oeschger from CGN Cruise, marking a remarkable showcase of the restaurant’s revival.

Restaurant Botta’s return is a milestone for the region, combining world-class cuisine with unparalleled alpine beauty. Indian Railways to add 1,000 coaches by month end

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi prioritises the improvement of services for general coach passengers, with Indian Railways set to add 1,000 new general coaches by the end of December. Announced by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Lok Sabha, the initiative reflects a focus on affordable travel rather than on AC coaches. Additionally, the ministry plans to build 10,000 more general coaches in the coming years to cater to rising passenger demands.

Indian Railways is also undertaking the world’s largest station redevelopment project under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. A total of 1,300 stations are being rebuilt, with redevelopment costs ranging from INR 100–800 crore depending on the station’s scale. This ambitious project aims to modernise infrastructure and elevate the travel experience for millions of passengers.

During the Question Hour, Vaishnaw urged MPs from Kerala and Tamil Nadu to coordinate with state governments for land acquisition, crucial for completing planned railway projects. The minister emphasised the importance of such partnerships to meet the expectations of the public.

Once completed, these initiatives will enhance the convenience and affordability of rail travel while modernising stations across India. The comprehensive focus on general coaches and infrastructure development reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive and accessible public transportation.

Uber launches Shikara rides in Kashmir

 

Uber has introduced a unique service, Uber Shikara, on Dal Lake in Srinagar, blending traditional Kashmiri heritage with modern convenience. The service allows locals and tourists to book shikara rides directly via the Uber app, marking the company’s foray into eco-tourism and heritage transportation in Jammu and Kashmir. This innovative initiative highlights Uber’s efforts to modernise local tourism while preserving cultural authenticity.

The service is designed to boost tourism by providing affordable, hassle-free access to Dal Lake, one of Kashmir’s most iconic destinations. With integrated safety measures and digital payment options, Uber Shikara ensures a smooth and memorable experience. By collaborating with local shikara owners, the service supports sustainable livelihoods and promotes environmentally conscious travel.

Uber has partnered with seven local shikara operators, ensuring government-regulated pricing to offer fair rates for tourists. Shikaras are stationed at Nehru Park, and operators retain 100% of the fares as Uber refrains from charging fees. Plans are underway to expand the fleet based on growing demand, further benefiting the local community.

Each shikara ride lasts one hour and can accommodate up to four passengers. Operating between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., bookings can be made 12 hours to 15 days in advance, offering convenience and flexibility for travellers. The service combines traditional charm with modern convenience, making it a standout addition to Srinagar’s tourism landscape.

With Uber’s cab services already present in Srinagar, the addition of Uber Shikara aims to revolutionise the tourist experience on Dal Lake. By introducing this service, Uber enhances the accessibility and enjoyment of one of India’s most picturesque attractions, cementing its commitment to innovation and community-focused tourism.
