Maharashtra launches e-bus for Ajanta tourists

The Maharashtra Tourism Department has launched a fleet of 20 electric buses to transport visitors to the famous Ajanta Caves. Some buses are air-conditioned and equipped with modern amenities, accommodating 14 to 22 passengers. The entire fleet is expected to be fully operational by October 20, enhancing convenience and sustainability.

The new electric buses will serve both domestic and international tourists, replacing the older diesel buses. Visitors can now enjoy faster, environmentally friendly transport from the parking area to the caves. The buses will also feature a film on the history of the Ajanta Caves during the journey.

Ajanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located about 100 kilometers from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The site consists of 30 rock-cut monuments, many adorned with stunning paintings illustrating the life of Lord Buddha and the Jataka Tales, making it one of India’s most celebrated heritage sites.

To reach Ajanta Caves, travellers can fly to Aurangabad Airport or take a train to Jalna or Aurangabad railway stations. Regular bus services from nearby cities are available, and tourists can use the new electric buses for the final leg of their journey from the parking lot to the cave complex.
