Naveen Kundu, MD, Ebixcash Travel Group and Chairman, MICE & Business Travel at FICCI has written to the government seeking budgetary allocation for meetings and events under the ‘Meet in India’ initiative.
The ‘Meet in India’ initiative aims to promote India as a premier destination for international conferences, meetings, and events, Kundu said. This initiative plays a crucial role in showcasing India’s capabilities, fostering international collaborations, and boosting our economy through tourism and business activities.
In recent years, the global landscape of meetings and events has evolved significantly, with increasing competition from other neighbouring countries that have significantly higher budgets allocated to similar initiatives. “To ensure the continued relevance and success of “Meet in India,” it is imperative that we enhance our financial support for hosting and organising such events,” Kundu shared.
By increasing the budget allocated to meetings and events under “Meet in India,” Kundu said the below objectives can be achieved:
1. Enhanced International Visibility: With a larger budget, India can attract more high-profile international conferences and events, thereby enhancing visibility globally as a preferred destination for business and cultural exchanges.
2. Improved Infrastructure and Facilities: Additional funding will enable India to upgrade infrastructure, such as conference venues, accommodation facilities, and transportation networks, to better cater to the needs of international delegates and organisers.
3. Increased Participation: A higher budget will allow for greater participation incentives, such as subsidising registration fees for international delegates, offering grants for event organisers, and providing logistical support, which will encourage more organisations to choose India as their event destination.
4. Promotion and Marketing: With increased funding, we can intensify our marketing efforts globally, highlighting India’s unique cultural heritage, technological advancements, and business potential, thereby attracting more international events and attendees.
By increasing the budget for meetings and events under the Meet in India initiative is not just an investment in event hosting, but a strategic move to bolster India’s global standing and economic growth, Kundu expressed.
