Coimbatore District collector Kranthi Kumar Pati announced on Saturday that out of the 632.95 acres required for the airport expansion, 468.83 acres were patta land, with the remainder being 134.75 acres of defense land and 29.38 acres of poramboke land.
The Coimbatore district has acquired 451 acres of the patta land and granted enter upon permission to the AAI, which also applies to 20.58 acres of poramboke land. Regarding the 134.75 acres of defense land, the government will sign a memorandum of understanding before issuing enter upon permission.
This permission will allow the AAI to begin the airport expansion project. Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P Rajkumar emphasised that the state government had relaxed conditions and handed over the land in the public interest, urging the central government to expedite the remaining process.
