MESCO launches ‘Veer Yatra’ - military tourism for civilians

Maharashtra Ex-servicemen Corporation (MESCO) has launched Veer Yatra - the first-of-its-kind “military tourism” initiative in India, providing civilian tourists a sneak peek into Military life. Col (Retd.) Suhas S. Jatkar, MD, MESCO, said “ We are offering customised packages and mainly targeting corporate entieiss and school children.” The tours are designed to give “as is” basis experience when it comes to living at military sites wherein the facilities are not designed for five-star hotel accommodation.

There are nine Veer Yatra tours starting from May 12. Bano Bahadur – Camp Shaurya (Age Group 10-13); Bano Bahadur – Camp Shaurya (Age Group 14-16); Panhala Adventure Camp; Refreshing Konkan; Goa-Karwar Coastal Treasures; Gangtok-Darjeeling; Moonlit Raigad : Historic Forts; Amarnath Yatra with Helicopter Trips; Corporate Outbound Program @ Mahad. “Our idea is to cater to the entire spectrum of tourist. We have developed ‘Corporate Outbound Program @ Mahad’ wherein a corporate can easily do a MICE event,” shared Col Jatkar. The corporation has own resorts in Mahad and Alibaug.

MESCO employs retired serviceman and their families.Apart from that, MESCO also plans to include activities and experiences that are more core military. “But we shall require to take permissions from requisite authorities for the same,” he said. All the nine packages are priced at subsidized rates starting from INR 2150/- per person (2D/1N) and leading up to INR 32,000/- (8D/7N).
