World’s first traveller assistance app, India Assist, to expand its service to more destinations in India

Touted as world’s first traveller assistance app, India Assist which was launched in Delhi NCR last September, will be soon expanding its services to more cities and destinations in the country. The mobile application which offers all sorts of traveller information and physical assistance on the ground ranging from medical to theft/loss of property and altercations to  transit issues, will go online in cities like Agra and Jaipur in the next couple of months. “The endeavour is to cover the Golden Triangle of Indian tourism before going pan-India,” said Harish Khatri, Founder, India Assist Insights Pvt. Ltd., the promoters of India Assist.

Talking about the mobile app, which is a subscription-based service, Khatri said that India Assist is one-of-its-kind technology application which tries to bridge the gap that exists in the travel eco-system as far as on the ground information and assistance is concerned.  “There is no centralised verified information or assistance available to travellers at the destination level. In the absence of that, travellers depend on unverified assistance available on the streets which sometimes turn out to be a trap to fleece them,” he said.

Travellers can download the application to get information on the phone as well as physical assistance by their own resources in case of medical emergencies, theft/loss of properties, altercations, etc. Any travel package today takes care of four elements associated with travel, says Khatri, which are air ticket, accommodation, itinerary and insurance.  “Assistance is missing from the travel eco-system. Therefore, we are trying to add an additional element,” he said.

India Assist has 1,000 downloads since it was launched in late September last year.  “We want to work with the travel industry so that they can offer India Assist as a service to their guests,” he added.  India Assist charges USD 10 per day for Assistance.  Users can use the service any number of times in 24 hrs by paying USD 10, Khatri stated.  “We are not a competition to anybody, rather we are complementing the industry by adding one more service, which ultimately helps the stakeholders to save in terms of time and resources,” Khatri clarified.

On a phone call for assistance, the App picks up the location of the traveller automatically and the whole assistance process, the time required for the India Assist team to reach the location, etc. comes live on the users mobile.  “It’s a branded information and branded assistance product,” he said.

Moreover, India Assist is the only mobile app which deals in multiple currencies and also guarantees privacy of the data of the user.  “Although we don’t take any sensitive data like passport number, etc. of the traveller, we still pledge that we value the privacy of the user not to use any data for any commercial purpose in future,” Khatri said explaining the unique features of the app.
