Film production in Tunisia is 30% cheaper than competing destinations in African and Europe: Tunisian Ambassador
North African country of Tunisia is the newest in the race for a fair share of burgeoning Indian outbound travel. One of few countries in the world where Indians do not  require a visa, Tunisia, a country which is endowed with rich history and heritage, diverse and panoramic landscape, has joined hands with Representation World, a Destination representation and promotion agency based in Delhi, to try and build awareness about the destination in the India market.

Conceding that not many Indians know about Tunisia Nejmeddine Lakhalmbassador, of Tunisia to India, , said that Tunisians know India more because of the popularity of Indian movies in Tunisia. Tourism, he said, is a key driver of the Tunisian economy, contributing around 11% to the GDP and the government bestow great importance to promotion of tourism.  Around 7.5 million tourists visited Tunisia last year.

Because of its diverse and panoramic landscape and long history and heritage, Tunisia is a preferred film tourism destination of the world. Around 80 international film productions happened in Tunisia in 2017 alone, the Ambassador said. The UNESCO inscribed Carthage City, El Djem, the Roman-era Amphitheatre, the island of Djerba, the snow-clad mountains, the long coastline, the desert all make up for perfect setting for cinematic tourism in Tunisia.

“The biggest advantage for film shooting in Tunisia is availability of experienced technicians in the country. The authorisation and clearances for film shooting do not take more than a week’s time,” the Ambassador said. Beyond all these, the destination is highly price competitive compared to other regional destinations and Europe. “We are at least 30% cheaper compared to any other destination in the region,” Ambassador Lakhal added.

Tunisia, he said, is less than an hour’s travel distance from Rome and less than two hours flying distance from any city in Europe.

Vineet Gopal, MD, Representation World said that Tunisia is a perfect leisure destination for Indian tourists who are looking for newer destinations and travel experiences.
