We will continue to explore India opportunities: Michael Goh, President, Dream Cruises

Michael Goh, President, Dream Cruises & Head of International Sales for Genting Cruise Lines said that the cruise company will continue to explore cruise tourism opportunities in India  considering the “long coastline” of the country. “We are in the final stages of planning, we haven’t decided, as to when and where. But, of course, somewhere we are interested in India considering the long coastline and our experience of conducting business here since 1999,” he said. The President of Dream Cruises was in Delhi to introduce the company’s newest and world’s largest Cruise Ship, Global Dream, which is expected to start its sail from May, 2021. Genting Cruise has setup a virtual cabin of the upcoming Global Dream cruise ship for travel partners to experience at the ongoing SATTE 2020 expo at India Expo Centre in Greater Noida.

“India is a key source market for Dream Cruises.  One-third of our passengers are from India,” Goh said, to a question. He said that Indians cruise market has come of age and do understand and distinguish the basics with luxury experiences. We classify India as premium luxury experiential cruise market,” he said.

Earlier, explaining the features of the new ship, Global Dream, Goh said that the 342m long ship being built at a cost of USD1.8 billion will be world’s largest cruise ship ever built. The ship will have 19 decks and 2350 cabins, all with capacity to seat 4-people, thereby becoming the highest capacity passenger cruise ship ever built. “The standard cabin of the Global Dream will be 15% bigger than any other cruise ship,” he said.
The ‘smart’ features include access to guest rooms by mobile phone, privacy partition, sensor-based lighting, mood lighting works on voice command, largest TV screen, etc. The ship will have a theme park, the first of its-kind in any cruise ship.  There will be 10 unique rides, including a roller-coaster which is over 300 metres, first one in the sea. Global Dream will also have eight sets of escalators, again a first-time introduction in any cruise ship. Genting will also be introducing their award-winning nightclub brand, Zouk, in a cruise ship in Global Dream. There will also be over 40 different F&B concepts in the cruise ship, Goh informd. The Palace Concept Suite Rooms, which is unique in Dream Cruises products, will also be part of Global Dream for guests who crave of private care and experiences.

The Zodiac Theatre will be the MICE venue which can accommodate 1300 people.  The ship will also have 8 theatres which are convertible for meetings and events. “40% of our business is MICE based,” Goh said.  He said that MICE in cruise ship is more seamless than in a hotel or resort as most of the entertainment, fireworks, etc. are inbuilt and need not to take separate approvals as in the case of hotels.

As far as pricing of the product, Goh said that the company will finalise the same in the first quarter of this year.
