Mathura to be developed as a religious tourism destination

After the imminent development of Ayodhya as a religious tourism centre, the focus of the Government of Uttar Pradesh is turning towards Mathura, the fabled land of Lord Krishna.

Speaking to IndiaToday.in, UP Tourism Minister Neelkanth Tiwari said Mathura will soon emerge as a major religious tourism centre in Western Uttar Pradesh. "All entry points into the city will be given a unique look. The lanes will be paved with red sandstone."

The decision to develop Mathura as a religious tourism centre was taken recently in the state capital Lucknow.

The Minister said keeping in mind the fact that the number of tourists coming to the Braj region will rise in the next 20 years, facilities in the city will be upgraded accordingly.

The Yogi Adityanath government has decided that all ghats of Braj will be beautified and the interpretation center will be redeveloped. Under the project, pathways will be lighted up, drinking water points will be installed, additional parking facility will be developed and solar plants will be erected.

Besides this, an auditorium will also be constructed and a sound and light show with a renewed script will be held at the Krishna Janmabhumi premises.

Social activist Deep Sharma said the development of the Braj region includes the development of Agra and it will increase the possibilities of night stay for tourists in Agra. "This comes as a great help to the region's tourism industry." (Source: India Today)
