India market contributes 20% of total business to Taj Dubai

Indian Hotels Company Limited’s (IHCL) maiden property in Middle East, Taj Dubai has been recording a contribution of approx. 20% from the Indian travellers which makes India the third largest market for the property after Europe and Middle East. In terms of room occupancy also, Indians rank third after Europe (30%) and Middle East (25%) contributing 17 to 20% of total share at the property. These stats were shared by Rais Ahamed, Director of Sales, Taj Dubai while interacting on the sidelines of the IHCL’s 2018 Sales Mission organised in New Delhi recently.

According to Ahamed, Taj Dubai is predominantly a luxury hotel receiving maximum business from leisure segment (60-65%) followed by MICE and corporate (15%). Ahamed exclaimed that Emiratees love Indian cuisine and Bombay Brassiere, Taj Dubai’s signature restaurant, remains occupied with over 25% localities on any given day and is ranked as one of the best Indian restaurants in Dubai serving the legacy of authentic Indian cuisine. “Our F&B contributes nearly 20% of the total revenue while rooms enjoy a share of 60-65% in the total revenue. The remaining business comes from the ancillary services on offer such as Jiva Spa,” added Ahamed.

“Weddings segment is one area on which we are still working and due to less spacious banquet space, we are unable to host big wedding events,” stated Ahamed.

He added that Taj Dubai, a 296 room property, receives 70% of its business from the DMCs, tour operators, travel agents rooted in Dubai itself and contribution from the travel trade to overall revenue for Taj Dubai is around 50%. The property has around eight preferred sales agents in Dubai.

IHCL is rapidly expanding in Middle East and in coming two years, Dubai itself will see two more hotels; Taj Exotica Resort and Spa in Palm Jumeirah and other one at Jumeirah Lake Towers. In 2019, Taj UAE will be participating at IHCL’s Sales Mission in India for the joint promotion of three properties.
