Representation company ‘KKR World’ focuses on FIT, small group & niche clients

One of the latest entrants in the travel representation business in India, KKR World is focusing on the FITs (small groups of up to 18 pax), family groups and niche clients. Mumbai-based KKR World is a new business venture of Kunal Kothari (former Head of Rail Europe India), and represents Rhaetian Railways (Glacier Express, Bernina Express) and Railtour Suisse.

“Railtour sells packages including hotels, rail, sight-seeing, mountain excursions, and activities, with a focus on FITs and small family groups. That is Railtour’s strength and focus,” said Kothari, Founding Train Cognoscente, KKR World. He added that with Rhaetian Railways, there is a wide range of possibilities. “We cater to groups, FITs and niche clientele looking for different types of experiences. Rhaetian Railways offer excellent facilities on the Glacier Express,” said Kothari.

Currently, Kothari is focusing on Delhi, NCR, Kolkata and Mumbai markets. Going forward, KKR World will tap Southern region and other markets in Western India. “I should have managed to cover a couple of more cities but being the election year, travelling around the country became a bit complicated by the time I had settled into the role. Not to mention, the suspension of Jet Airways made things all the more difficult,” pointed out Kothari.

When asked to comment on his promotional strategy, Kothari replied, “I haven’t really started working on the promotion aspect. The focus has been on the immediate job at hand, including understanding the portfolios of the companies I am representing and of course, their expectations and plans for the Indian market. With the peak season close on the heels, I am hoping to do the usual as well as some not-so-common activities to promote KKR World to the trade. I prefer to have that element of surprise, especially with promotional activities.”

Throwing light on the changing phase of the representation business, Kothari said that the opportunities have gone beyond the traditional tourism boards, hotels and transportation. Talking about the response from the market, he said, “Railtour Suisse has been around for almost two decades offering some of their Rail Europe packages. At some point, they even had representation in India. So it is a comeback of sorts for Railtour Suisse. It hasn’t been too long since I started, but I have got a fairly good response so far and I am grateful to the trade for the same while being hopeful it will continue in future too,” said an optimistic Kothari.
