PROMPERÚ hosts Trade FAM for Indian travel agents

The Embassy of Peru in association with the National Geographic Traveller India jointly hosted two events in Mumbai and New Delhi celebrating Peru’s rich food and cultural heritage. Speaking exclusively to TravelBiz Monitor, Luis M Cabello, Economic and Commercial Counsellor, Embassy of Peru said that in order to boost the awareness about Peru in India, PROMPERÚ (Peru Export and Tourism Promotion Board) recently hosted trade FAM comprising four Indian travel agents and later to Peru Travel Mart (Lima) on the last two days. Familiarisation tours were conducted to educate the Indian operators on the new product offerings. Later in October this year, there are plans to conduct Press FAMs to Peru as well.

At the event in Delhi, Cabello also used the opportunity to showcase the gastronomy offerings and promote Peru as a standalone destination. “For the Indian travellers looking out for new destinations, Peru is the right choice. From beaches to trekking and wildlife, all travellers can find their kind of experience in Peru. I would strongly recommend exploring Chan Chan and the sights of Lord of Sipán, the pyramids and Lady of Cao in North of Peru,” he said.

The panellists at the event also advocated that in Peru organic food is the way of life and Indians should be opened minded to try the local flavour. “Travellers should look beyond Machu Picchu and can plan a long holiday exploring new destinations. From soft adventure sports to umpteen activities, there is a lot to do in the country,” they said in unison.

In the financial year 2015-16, Peru has seen a 9% growth in travellers from India as compared to the previous year. The travel demand equally from both leisure and business travellers are increasing the numbers.

From March onwards, the Embassy of Peru announced visa relaxations for Indian nationals. The entry is now free for Indians with six month valid USA, UK, Schengen, Canada and Australia visa. Other travellers can apply for visa online which is granted in a period of five working days at a fee of INR 2200.

On the connectivity front, though there are no direct flights from India to Peru, however, convenient connection can be booked via Europe.
