MoT mulls Mega Tourism Investment Meet this year in July/August

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is planning a ‘Mega Tourism Investment’ Summit in Delhi this year. According to Vinod Zutshi, Secretary – Tourism, Government of India this summit meet will be held either in the month of July or August. Zutshi informed this at the launch of ‘Swachh Paryatan’ mobile application in Delhi today.

Elaborating the plan, Zutshi said that the idea is to bring in all stakeholders of the industry on one platform and showcase the opportunities for investment in the sector to the potential investors. He said that States of India are integral to it, considering the land belongs to the states and individual states have their own policies for investment which is different from the national policy.

He said that policies of the States will be collated and presented to the investors at the Summit. He said that the Central government has invested around INR 1,600 cr on various infrastructure projects around Swadesh Darshan and PRASAD schemes of the government, and now it is important for private investors to pitch in to create facilities like convention centres, amusement parks, adventure tourism facilities, etc. around it.

He said that the government permits 100% FDI in the Tourism and hospitality sector in the country, therefore the government would try to rope in foreign investors as well for the meet.
