Karlsruhe Tourism Germany records 12,000 room nights from India in 2018

Organises its maiden trade event in Mumbai
Having recorded 12,000 room nights from India in 2018, Karlsruhe Tourism, Germany organised its first ever trade event for India in Mumbai. Talking to the media after the presentation, Karen Weber, Head of Tourism Marketing, KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH, said, “We receive a mix of MICE as well leisure groups, and Karlsruhe is apt for FITs. We recorded 12,000 room nights in 2018 and are hoping to growth by 15-20% this year. The room rates in Karlsruhe are 20-25% cheaper compared to neighbouring destinations, which is an attractive proposition. We receive maximum tourists from Mumbai with Pune being a feeder market. That’s why we decided to come to Mumbai to showcase our destination to the trade partners.”

Karlsruhe is the second largest city of Baden-Württemberg state in South West Germany after its capital of Stuttgart. Globally, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, US and India, in that order, are the top overseas source markets for Karlsruhe Tourism.

Talking at the event, Hector D’souza, Director - India, SouthWest German Tourism, said that the region has witnessed a surge of 290% in the past 8 years from India. “The average length of stay by Indians is 4.5 days, while the highest spend has been of EUR 175 per person per day. During 2018, we have seen India recorded 184,000 room nights, and this figure will cross the 200,000-mark for the entire year. With 14.5% growth in 2018, over the 10% the year ago, India is among our top global source 3 markets.”

The city of Karlsruhe is an hour’s drive from Europa Park (receives 25,000 visitors during summer) and 30 minutes away by road from Baden-Baden and Alsace (France). The ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe ranks among the top 5 museums in the world. Karlsruhe shares its border with France and Germany, and the Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport is conveniently connected to Frankfurt.
