Orritel Convention, Spa & Wedding Resort, Talegaon

Disha Shah Ghosh
It won’t be incorrect to term the city of Talegaon in Pune district as the ‘automobile hub’ of Maharashtra. From General Motors to Volkswagen, from Toyota to Kirloskar and Tata Motors, Talegaon is dotted with these establishments and over 700 ancillary companies. To service this kind of corporate footprint, the four-star premium Orritel Convention, Spa & Wedding Resort, Talegaon which opened its doors four years ago, offers two kinds of ballrooms and conferencing facilities each. In recent times, the property has been host to large-scale Indian weddings and has been running over an average occupancy of 60%.
Besides its location of being in close proximity to the Mumbai-Pune highway and the only property with conference and banquet facility in the Talegaon-Chakan belt, it enjoys the spillover of regular tourist flow to the nearby Lonavla from Mumbai, Pune and Hinjewadi during weekends. With main metro cities reaching a saturation point in terms of properties and rates, Orritel Talegaon offers a refreshing change, away from the chaos of city life, with all the conveniences at three-star rates.

The property is on the verge of opening new venues for entertainment to offer an active social life to the long-staying corporate guests. Amith Dholakia, Managing Director, Orritel Group of Hotels, believes that a destination like Talegaon offers an opportunity to tap guests not only from the nearby districts, but also from metro cities like Mumbai and Pune to ensure captive audience, especially for conferences and weddings. In a city like Mumbai it is difficult to control the audience, because of social obligations. “In Talegaon, one can hold a captive audience during a conference which is an advantage. From a hospitality and real estate perspective, we believe in the city offering an opportunity for growth instead of the other way round. All the cities are bound to grow and with infrastructure coming in, we rather be here earlier than later.” he says.

To expand its offerings to a multitude of entertainment & F&B concepts, “We will be bringing the Doolally Taproom to our property soon to create an opportunity to unwind,” Dholakia adds.

For leisure guests, the property enjoys proximity to the Bedse Caves and Pavana Dam. A ascend of 400 stairs leads one to the Bedse Caves. The stairs are in fairly good shape and this spot is popular among trekkers and tourists alike, especially during weekends and monsoons. It is advisable to visit the caves early in the morning because the beauty of the caves is enhanced in direct sunlight owing their east facing position. Once there, the only source to provide a background on the monument is the information board. Much of this area continues to enjoy neglect and there are no dedicated tour guides to offer a peek into its glorious past.

To experience nature at its best, a visit to Pavana Dam is nothing short of a scene out of a postcard. The dam is surrounded by second homes and there are private establishments offering tent stays, which enjoys good crowd during weekends. It is an ideal location to spend some leisure time, slowly soaking in the beauty of the clean water while enjoying some ripe ‘anjeer’ freshly plucked from the local tree.
