TRADE PERSPECTIVE

Subhash Goyal, former President, Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO)
“Cruising is one of the fastest growing tourism sectors. It is better late than never that India has its own home grown cruise brand. I strongly feel that the launch of Jalesh Cruises will help the industry and help tourism in the country grow. Foreigners will get an opportunity to experience one of the biggest coastlines which is almost 7,516.6 km. This launch will also create job opportunities along the coast”

PP Khanna, President, Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI)
“The launch of Jalesh Cruises is a milestone for India. Singapore and Malaysia are already driving the tourism sector mainly because of the cruising experiences. Now that India has Jalesh, Indians will not have to go to other countries to experience a cruise holiday. The induction of Jalesh is a good development for economy of the country and sector of domestic cruise tourism. Lot of foreigners from neighboring countries and the USA experience cruise within their own country. But now with the launch of ‘Jalesh’ the foreigners can have the experience of cruising in India and I am sure they will grab this opportunity”

Pradip Lulla, Vice President, Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI)
“It’s a right step in the right direction. The domestic cruise tourism in India is at infancy and any capacity addition will help boost the demand. This will generate interest among the people of India to undertake cruise vacations. I think it will go a long way to popularise cruise tourism in India”

Jagat Mehta, President, Enterprising Travel Agents’ Association (ETAA)
“Domestic cruise tourism will certainly get a momentum with the launch of Jalesh. To get a cruise experience one has to go to abroad and certainly not everyone can afford it. The segment which can’t afford cruise tourism abroad can now experience in India that too in a world-class ship. The timing of the launch is also appropriate as the government is extending all possible help for the growth of the sector. I strongly feel, after sometime years, foreign tourists will also come to India to experience cruise holidays. Not only that, inbound tour operators can also devise a land package with a cruise experience”

Sudhir Patil, President, Maharashtra Tour Organisers’ Association (MTOA)
“The travel industry wholeheartedly welcomes ‘Jalesh’. Its launch was really a historic day for tourism industry in Mumbai. While we are expecting more cruise ships call in Mumbai, on the same lines, we hope that the trade and tourism sector and the government would support this new venture. We do expect foreign tourists support and participation in Jalesh due to visa relaxation from India. This will boost the growth of inbound tourism, and will directly as well as indirectly benefit Maharashtra”

Jyoti Mayal, Honorary Secretary General, Travel Agents Association Of India (TAAI)
“The launch of Jalesh cruises is a very good initiative and the domestic cruise sector will benefit a lot from it. People who can’t afford cruise tourism abroad will certainly go for this. We must promote it in foreign countries as well so that travellers from abroad can also enjoy cruising in India”

Unveiling of brand Jalesh
Later in the evening a gala party was organised where nearly 700 trade professionals participated. A replica of onboard experience was created at the event and all the guests relished the expereince. Right from welcoming guests with wet towels to the activity at bar and live kitchen and DJ made the atmosphere truly electrifying.

No doubt, the bar was one of the attractions and fancy drills added further momentum to the enjoyment. The photo booth was another attraction of the event and guests were seen capturing their memories. Right next to the photo booth was the food counter where along with food items some musical instruments were also kept there, therefore a surprise was waiting for everyone. How could music and food be collaborated? Just before we could fathom this, Chef Kunal Kapoor along with Sanket Naik, a master percussionist grabbed the attention with their unique duet performance which included a fusion of music and food. While Naik played his extraordinary notes, Kapoor amalgamated his culinary skills and presented a fancy dish and the same was served to the guests later.

The event also witnessed guests enthusiastically participating in two mainstream casino games -Blackjack and Roulette arranged at the casino counter. Throughout the event, the casino counter drew huge crowd which clearly shows the popularity of casinos.

Around 9 pm, anchor Meiyang Chang, welcomed the VVIPS and guests to the theatre area and all of them were greeted with Indian classical music played on sitar. After that, eminent comedian Papa CJ enthralled the audience followed by solo performance by Bollywood singer Akriti Kakar. This was followed by the grand unveiling of the logo of Jalesh Cruises.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group, said, “It is a special occasion for me to witness the launch of Jalesh Cruises which is going to be the first Indian company to launch a ship having the capacity of 2,000 passengers. I sincerely believe that in the next 10 years we will see around 20 ships sailing from India. And if that happens, the industry will generate jobs for 2 million people.” He also said that the cruising industry started in late 60’s and today it has come a long way. “Today, ships have huge capacity and can accommodate up to 6,000 to 7,000 passengers per vessel. Such ships are nothing but a full- fledged tourist destination with the kind of facilities they have. As far as India is concerned, I personally see immense potential for this industry.” Dr Chandra also lauded the Government, DG Shipping and Chairman of the Bombay Port Trust for their whole hearted support to make the industry truly a vibrant one. “I want to see a smile on every passenger’s face while disembarking from the ship,” he said.

Describing it as a major milestone for India, Bailom said, “We have a deep commitment to constantly create more values for our guests by providing a wide variety of itineraries and exciting destinations.”
