Uzbekistan to introduce attractive incentive scheme for film tourism in 2020

In order to encourage more Indian film productions to shoot in its scenic and historic locations, the Central Asian Republic of Uzbekistan will roll out an attractive incentive scheme next year. According to Temurbek, Representative of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, who has been sent to Delhi to formulate strategies to increase tourism relationships between Uzbekistan and India, there will be 20% capital subsidy available for film production units interested to shoot films in Uzbekistan from 2020. 20% of the expenses incurred for film production in Uzbekistan will be reimbursed by the Uzbek government to make it an attractive proposition for film production companies, he said.

Temurbek was speaking to TravelBiz Monitor on the sidelines of a trade event organised by the Uzbekistan Embassy in India to coincide with the visit of a high-level delegation visit from three important regions of Uzbekistan like Khorezm, Samarkand and Bukhara.  The high-level delegation led by Deputy Governors of these three regions interacted with representatives of leading tour companies in India to understand the opportunities and challenges of promoting tourism and investments into Uzbekistan.  

Earlier, introducing the delegation, Farhod Arziev, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan, said that Uzbekistan intends to expand tourism co-operation and people to people contacts with India and the visit of the high-level delegation is a step in that dierction. The number of Indian tourists visiting Uzbekistan has doubled in the last two years, he said.

Moreover, to further strengthen the tourist flow from India, Uzbekistan Tourism will open tourism information offices across key cities. Later speaking to TravelBiz Monitor, Ambassador Arziev said that seven big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, etc. have been identified to set up offices. The idea is to enter into some kind of agreement with a tour company in India with offices in all these cities as a partner and function as Uzbekistan Tourism Centre. Such offices will also offer visa-related assistance also, he added.

Representatives of Khorezm, Samarkhand and Bukhara regions made presentations about the tourism offerings of the respective regions.
