Sentosa looking for strategic partnerships in India; to tap meetings & incentives segment

Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), which is responsible for the development, management and promotion of the island of Sentosa in Singapore as a tourist destination, is looking for strategic partnerships to undertake promotional activities in the Indian market. Also, this year, SDC will work towards increasing meetings and incentive movements.

During her maiden visit to India for the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) roadshow in Mumbai, Lynette Ang, Chief Marketing Officer, SDC said, “India is the top most source market for Sentosa Island and it contributes more than 20% of our overseas visitors. It is majorly the metro cities that we welcome visitors from and we are actively working with the STB to promote the island and its attractions in Tier-II and III cities. We are also looking for strategic partnerships to see how we could promote Sentosa among Indian travellers through some innovative ideas.”

Ang said that the key for incentives travel is “unique experiences” and at Sentosa they are capable to meet the client requirements for it is a destination where people can stay, meet and play. “We recorded couple of incentives group movements from India last year. Our primary objective this year it to tap the meetings and incentive segments from India. As a step in this direction, we have for the first time developed a MICE guide which gives complete information on the hotels, meeting facilities and restaurant choices at Sentosa. We introduced this guide among the trade in Mumbai and have received good response from them. Singapore is considered as an attractive MICE destination for its infrastructure and air connectivity, and Sentosa perfectly fits the bill to meet the meetings and incentives requirement because of the popular attractions.”
Sentosa Island is home to 17 hotels with a combined inventory of 3,000 rooms. The destination is home to over 100 restaurants and a range of attractions. Last year, Sentosa launched the Bungy Jump ride, which is the first in South East Asia. Similarly, the Madam Tussauds at Sentosa added a new segment of Marvel 4D adventure while the Skyline Luge opened two new tracks. The island is spread across an area of 55 sq mt and is a 20-minute drive from the Singapore International Airport.
