MSC to restart cruising on its second ship Magnifica from Oct 19

MSC Cruises has announced that MSC Magnifica will begin sailings in October with longer and richer itinerary offerings.

The cruise line has now released details of its second ship in the fleet that will resume service since the suspension of operations first started in March 2020.

MSC Magnifica will kick start cruises from October 19, 2020 with a series of seven cruises including an eight-night Christmas cruise departing on December 18 from Genoa, Italy.

MSC Magnifica’s new programme covers both the West and East Mediterranean and will see the ship homeport in Genoa with calls at Livorno for Florence and Pisa, Messina in Sicily, Valletta in Malta, Piraeus for Athens and Katakolon for Olympia in Greece and Civitavecchia for Rome, before returning to Genoa.

The MSC cruise ship was previously scheduled to start cruises from August 29, 2020 but due to the complex situation in Europe this was delayed. You can read more details about the delay right here. This does mean that the ship’s four proposed seven-night cruises from Bari, Italy between September 26 and October 24, 2020 have been cancelled.

MSC Magnifica follows MSC Grandiosa which has already resumed cruises successfully. The ship is on her fourth consecutive sailing since first kick-starting operations on August 16 out of Genoa, Italy. This came after the approval from Italian authorities and with new health measures in place.

When MSC Magnifica begins cruising there will also be strict health protocols for guests and crew. This will include universal screening of everyone before boarding the vessel elevated sanitation and cleaning measures throughout the vessel, managed social distancing, wearing of face masks in public areas and technology to aid track and trace on board. The measures are working after being implemented on MSC Grandiosa.

In the U.S., MSC Cruises will only restart operations when the time is right, following approval by the CDC and other relevant authorities across the region in observance of their requirements and guidelines. (Source: Cruise Hive)
