India emerges as a lucrative market for Sarova Hotels & Resorts

Kenya-based Sarova Hotels, Resort & Game Lodges, recently conducted its 4-city workshop in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. The events had witnessed large participation of travel agents and policy makers. Speaking to TravelBiz Monitor, Selina Dima, Travel Trade Manager, Global Sales, Sarova Hotels and Resorts, said that India is a very important market for Sarova Hotels. “We are here in India to understand the Indian clientele and their requirements. In India, Kenya is still perceived as only safari and wild life destination. It is actually not true, Kenya can offer more than that and we want to share this to the travel trade of India,” explained Dima. She added that they want to change the perception of people about Kenya. “Kenya can offer lot of experiences which tourists can enjoy. They can enjoy different experiences in our different properties. Each property of ours has different experience to offer,” said Dima.

In India, Sarova is targeting all traveller segments. “Our properties can cater to MICE, leisure, solo travellers, wedding, family etc.”

“Plans are afoot to travel to other cities as well. We have been in the Indian market since last 35 years, however, this is our first event with Outbound Konnections,” stated Dima.

According to figures released by the Ministry of Tourism on the state of Kenyan tourism in 2017, international arrivals hit 1.47 million in 2017, up from 1.34 million the previous year.

The Indian market contributed to 6.2% of these arrivals, as the fourth largest source market; behind the United States of America, United Kingdom and Uganda.

“Sarova has been a well-known brand in terms of luxury, cuisine and the quality of services it has to offer for all travel segments be it leisure, MICE or wedding groups. International arrivals have been on a steady growth since 2015, and the Indian market has been one of the fastest growing source markets,” said Dima.
