Travel activity volumes could reach 60-65% occupancy level by fiscal end: MMT

The OTA is looking at offline agent collaboration with the launch of hotel booking platform ‘myPartner’
At a time when the travel businesses are on the verge of collapse, tie-ups and collaborations seem to be the way forward. Online travel agent MakeMyTrip (MMT) has launched ‘myPartner’ platform, giving access to its entire hotel inventory to offline agents. MMT conducted a pilot test among 100 agents, and is offering free sign-up on this platform. Moreover, with search volumes going up on its platform, the company believes that travel activity volumes could gain strength by end of the fiscal.

Talking about this, Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group CEO, MakeMytTrip, said, “Travel activity volumes, whether its attractions, hotel bookings, flights, etc. could reach 60-65% occupancy levels by end of fiscal. The launch of the vaccine will push the pent up demand. International travel, however, will take some time to recover.”

Commenting on the myPartner platform, Magow said, “The travel ecosystem demands deeper and wider collaboration amongst all stakeholders in the value chain in order to make a sustained recovery as the sector has been hit hard by the pandemic. Through our new MyPartner offering we are very proud to give access of our rich content and inventory of domestic and international hotels at best prices to travel agents in the country. This will help them in making a faster recovery as travel restrictions are lifted gradually.”

With regards to the trust deficit among consumers, Magow stated that MMT in the past few months since the lockdown has mobilised refunds more than INR 250 crore. “The way the situation panned out was unprecedented. There is a certain amount of concern that customers definitely have, and we will continuously keep making efforts like we always have.”

According to Vipul Prakash, COO, MakeMyTrip, “We have leveraged B2C experience to make the booking flow extremely seamless.”  When asked, how will they reach out to travel agents at this point of time? Prakash said that they have robust data of travel agents. "We will be participating in all trade fairs and exhibitions which will help us to reach agents further," he said.

According to him, access to huge inventory will be the compelling reason for agents to join our platform.
