Saturation of slots at Mumbai airport singlemost bottleneck for aviation in India: Jayant Sinha
By Disha Shah Ghosh | Mumbai

The unprecedented growth of air passenger traffic demonstrates the demand for aviation despite the many  challenges, said Jayant Sinha, MoS, Civil Avaition, Government of India. "The Tier-II & III cities show tremendous uptake in passenger traffic," he said through a video conference at the ongoing CAPA India Aviation Summit 2018. "However, given the robust demand, two factors need consideration - fleets being expanded and slots at major airports of Mumbai and Delhi. Mumbai with its single runway and saturation of slots remains the single-most bottleneck for civil aviation in India."

Moreover, he said that taking into consideration the oil prices and airport capacity of the past 2 years, the government has set a forecast of achieving 15% growth in air passengers to achieve 1billion trips.
