Mumbai Coasts to be turned into tourism hubs: Nitin Gadkari

According to a The ET report, Nitin Gadkari, minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India, said his ministry plans to develop coastal towns, islands, watch towers, beaches and docks in and around Mumbai into tourism hubs to promote cruise and coastal tourism in the country.
He said the ministry is looking to develop areas such as Alibaug, Kanhoji Angre Island, Sewree Fort, Vijaydurg, Mandwa and Sassoon Dock.

“To attract tourists, water sports activities are being planned around the Marine Drive area. Racing events, such as versions of Formula 1 and Grand Prix, are also on the anvil,” said Gadkari in a statement.

The ministry along with Maharashtra government plans to develop Mandwa as a wellness destination with facilities for activities like yoga and meditation, which will be conducted on land belonging to the Mumbai Port Trust.
