IHCL forays into homestay segment with Ama Trails & Stays
By TBM Staff | Mumbai

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) announced its entry in the plantation trail and homestay segment in India with the launch of a dedicated brand, Ama Trails & Stays. IHCL, the parent company of Taj hotels, claims that, Ama is the first branded product in the Indian homestay market.

The company has signed a management contract for nine heritage bungalows with Tata Coffee in Coorg and Chikmangalur, and is in the process of adding two of its own bungalows in Goa, Condolim under the Ama portfolio, by next year.

Speaking on the occasion of  IHCL’s Capital Market Day held at Taj Lands End , Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IHCL said, “Ama basically means coming home. It will be a home away from home. Many of the properties and guest houses under the Ama brand are owned by various Tata group companies. We are starting with 11 properties, but we want to scale up to 100 properties by 2020, and we are also expecting to add non-group bungalows.”

By venturing into the home-stay segment, the company is looking to create a win-win situation for itself and other Tata Group companies without incurring big investment. “We are not investing anything, we are helping the group company to consolidate, as well as, enabling our loyalty customers, to burn their points,” Chhatwal said.

Guest can begin their bookings for Ama Trails & Stays from March 1.
