UTPA collaborates with MoT for sensitisation workshop for adventure tourism guides to promote Destination Uttarakhand

In its efforts of promoting tourism in Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand Tourism Professionals Association (UTPA), organised a workshop on role & sensitisation of rafting guides/ mountaineering guides/ local guides/ tour operators and hoteliers in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Tourism last week. 

To generate socio-economic benefits from tourism sector it is UTPA's endeavour to help locals in getting jobs to avoid further migration from this part of hilly area of Devbhumi

The inaugural address was made by Ravi Gosain, Founder President, UTPA, who welcomed the participants and shared the details about the activities of the association.

Anil Oraw, Regional Director-North India, IATO, addressed the gathering and detailed the various activities being undertaken by the Ministry of Tourism in Uttarakhand. 

For this workshop UTPA also invited an official from Uttarakhand Tourism, and few subject experts who have been involved for years in organising/ conducting mountaineering/ trekking and rafting activites in Uttarakhand, to deliver lectures for the benefit to the participants. 

Vice President of rafting association at Rishikesh informed that to facilitate the rafting in Ganges they have recently started a roster system. Various stakeholders connected with rafting and mountaineering also participated in the deliberations. 

While thanking the guests and participants for attending the workshop Narendra Kothiyal, Adviser/ Mentor of Uttarakhand Tourism, detailed various potential of developing tourism in Uttarakhand from pilgrimage to adventure, yoga & mediation, wild life and centre for spiritual studies. He stated that having such vast potential of tourism activities in Uttarakhand travellers can easily fullfil all their desires and is, therefore becoming a dream destination for all. 

He also said that it is becoming essential now to hold guide training courses for rafting & mountaineering and for tourist guides in Uttarakhand. He detailed the various initiatives being taken by the UTPA to promote "Destination Uttarakhand". 

Kothiyal stated the need of the hour is to frame regulations and enforcing the guidelines to operate rafting & mountaineering activities in Uttarakhand to avoid any mishap during such activities and also spoke on responsible tourism. He said the need to generate and help locals to get maximum benefit out of it to save them moving out of Uttarakhand and at the same time he cautioned the participants about conserving the fragile ecological balance of the region.
