As per the Express Web Desk report, to promote cashless transaction, Arun Jaitley, Minister for Finance, Government of India on Thursday announced various discounts on digital payments on purchase of fuel and train tickets. Suggesting that transaction through cash has economic as well as in-built cost in a democratic set-up, the finance minister said the government is promoting payment by credit, debit cards and e-wallets.
People buying monthly seasonal tickets in the Suburban railway networks through digital payment mode will get 0.75% discount.This is effective from January 1, 2017, starting from the Mumbai suburban railways. Insurance cover worth INR 10 lakhs will be provided for those who book Railway tickets through digital mode. There will be 5% discount on digital payment mode for railway facilities like catering, retiring rooms.
Speaking on the completion of one month of the demonetisation decision, Jaitley said the country has seen many changes in last mone month. “Today its one month since PM announced demonetisation decision and in last 30 days we have seen major changes in economy,” said Jaitley adding that the aim of demonetisation has been to move towards digital transactions.
