Maharashtra Tourism assists state government in helping 130 stranded tourists due to Covid-19

During the period of lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Directorate of Tourism has been part of the support team of Government of Maharashtra and has been providing guidance and assistance to international and domestic tourists stranded in the state since lockdown has been implemented across the nation. 

Directorate of Tourism team has offered guidance to over 130 stranded tourists who raised queries to the support team set up by Government of Maharashtra. Majority of the tourists approaching the state government for help have been international tourists. 

Directorate of Tourism has been prompt in offering help to these stranded tourists within a span of 24 hours. So far they have efficiently helped Michael Stelzig and Alexandra Simone Heipertz from Germany who were stranded in Pench to cross all district borders, and reach Mumbai safely to board special flight organised by German Embassy to airlift their citizens. 

Likewise the Directorate has also coordinated with district collectors, police and all concerned authorities to help. Christine Rolland, a French tourist stranded in Aurangabad to travel to board a special flight from Mumbai, arranged by the French Embassy. Information on repatriation of foreign nationals has been shared from time to time with all foreign tourists who have approached the support team. These included citizens of countries like USA, UK, Australia, etc. 

The Directorate of Tourism has also coordinated and helped tourists of different nations like USA, Columbia, Malawi, etc. who were struggling to meet their basic needs of food, shelter, medical aid. Akbar Bhimji of Chicago, USA who was a medical patient and urgently needed to travel back to his country was provided assistance for extension of visa of his wife. Rozmin Bhimji to help the couple get on a special flight arranged by US Embassy. 

Ferish Mailosi and Nedson Jardson Ganala from Malawi were running out of finance even to meet their basic needs of food and accommodation. The Directorate team coordinated with concerned authorities, ensured provision of food and resolved their problem of accommodation as well. Likewise, Maryi Giron from Columbia, South America along with her two friends were served food at her rented residence in Bandra. 

Directorate of Tourism team ran for help of Jenifer Guarin Montoya from Columbia who was starving for food, deprived of shelter and safety and required medical aid. She was served food, offered medical help and her accommodation problem was also resolved. 

Alexander Blake Canepa of USA who was travelling from Indore to Mumbai to board a special flight to USA, was obstructed at Madhya Pradesh – Maharashtra border for three hours. Directorate of Tourism team help them clear the border with constant coordination and follow-up with concerned authorities. 

The team has been working hand in hand with district collectors, police, hotel associations, etc. to offer prompt help and support to stranded people in this deadly epidemic of Covid-19.
