Government enhances validity of e-Visa to five years

Union Tourism Minister seeks co-ordinated efforts on the part of Centre and States to realise tourism targets
Government of India has decided to extend the validity of e-Tourist Visa validity to five years from the existing one year. This was announced by the Union Tourism Minister, Prahlad Singh Patel at the inaugural of the National Conference of Tourism Ministers in Delhi today.

With the extension of the validity, the government has also reduced the e-Visa fee drastically for the foreign travellers. In the revised fee structure, e-Visa of less than 30 days validity will only cost US$10 in place of US$25.

The e-visa fee for other duration visas also reduced by the government. Patel said that the government will look at simplifying the e-Visa format soon.

The Tourism Minister said that it is important that Centre, States, and the Private stakeholders of the tourism industry work in a co-ordinated manner to achieve the targets set by the Prime Minister for doubling the Foreign Tourist Arrivals into the country over the next five years.

He said that Tourism is by and large is a State subject and nothing can be achieved without the support of the States. And any incident happens in any part of India irrespective of the State where it occurs creates negative image for the country as a whole.

‘India has everything at its disposal to attract international tourists. We have to shed negativism,’ Patel said. Funds, he said, are not a challenge for tourism in the country, but perception is a major challenge.

Tourism Ministers of more than 20 states are participating in the Tourism Ministers conference, the first after the new government under Prime Minister Modi has taken over.

Earlier, in his welcome speech, Yogendra Tripathy, Secretary Tourism, Government of India also reminded the States of the need to create the 'right environment' for visitors so as to realise the dream of Prime Minister.
