AccorHotels opens second ibis hotel in Pune

ibis Pune Hinjewadi (IPH) becomes the 18th property of ibis Hotels across India
InterGlobe Hotels and AccorHotels on January 4, 2018 announced the opening of ibis Pune Hinjewadi (IPH), the second ibis hotel in Pune city. Hinjewadi being recognised as the IT hub of Pune, and a leading destination for businesses especially IT and ITES, InterGlobe Hotels has strategically chosen Hinjewadi Phase-II as a location to develop the ibis Pune Hinjewadi business hotel to tap this target segment from both domestic and inbound travellers.

Featuring 136 well-appointed rooms, the hotel offers a wide range of in-room amenities like high-speed WI-FI, locker safes, and the signature Sweet Bed bedding concept by ibis. ibis Pune Hinjewadi’s signature ‘Spice It’ restaurant is a 24-hour restaurant serving Indian, Oriental and European cuisine. It also offers well-priced, quality home style and healthy food and beverages with both buffet and a-la-carte options – including an eight-hour all-day breakfast concept between 4 am to 12 noon.

Speaking on the success of Interglobe Hotels in India, J.B. Singh, President & CEO, InterGlobe Hotels said, “InterGlobe Hotels is committed to continuing its rapid expansion over the next few years in key locations across the country. We are today seating at almost 3,500 rooms across the country; by 2022 we will be adding another six hotels, and by 2024 we will be crossing over 4,400 rooms. We are averaging almost 70% occupancy across all our 18 properties. Specific to Maharashtra, ibis Pune Hinjewadi is our 5th hotel to commence operations in the state. We also have three additional properties within Maharashtra in various stages of development which will be operational by 2021. As a destination, Pune sees a large influx of travellers for business, education and leisure purposes. Along with our existing hotel in Viman Nagar, ibis Hinjewadi will further strengthen our position in the city.”

While addressing the launch of the hotel, Jean-Michel Cassé, Chief Operating Officer, India and South Asia, AccorHotels, said, “This is our first ibis property to debut in Hinjewadi Phase ll. India is a core expansion market and we are delighted to see the demand for the international hospitality brands grow in the country. The key to our development over the last ten years has been the iconic acceptance of the ibis brand by Indian consumers. The launch of ibis Pune Hinjewadi gives us an opportunity to showcase the 18th ibis hotel in the country and highlight AccorHotels’ growing network in the western region.”

When asked about the potential in Pune as a market to develop two ibis properties, Cassé says that ibis Viman Nagar has been receiving 80% Occupancy while Pune in the last year, 2017, recorded Occupancy of 68%, and India records an Occupancy rate of 65-66%, so looking at the emerging potential in Pune, especially Hinjewadi which is the growing IT Sector, we planned to develop the ibis Pune Hinjewadi.

While speaking on the lines of RevPAR growth of the multi-brand hotels under AccorHotels in 2018, Cassé says that all the hotels under AccorHotels are expecting a growth of 15%.

Speaking at the launch of the hotel, Anant Leekha, General Manager, ibis Pune Hinjewadi, said, “We curate a quality experience for guests at ibis Pune Hinjewadi, and offer well being at the best price. Being cognizant of the businesses in the area the hotel has two modern and stylish meeting rooms equipped with state-of-the-art conferencing facilities.”

Interacting exclusively with TravelBiz Monitor, Singh says that ibis as a brand is eyeing rapid expansion throughout India and we are bullish about the same. He says, in terms of growth, InterGlobe Hotels expects a 5-10% growth in the future from their stable hotels. Sharing the figures of success in the hospitality industry, Singh said that the company’s CAGR growth in inventory since 2008 has been 33% and in revenue, it has seen 27% growth.

While speaking on the target segment that AccorHotels sees to tap in India, Cassé spoke at length with TravelBiz Monitor, “Even though AccorHotels being an international brand, here in India, following the joint-venture with InterGlobe Enterprises Pvt Ltd, the hotels developed in India are varied in terms of attracting inbound tourists and the domestic travellers. The hotels have been built primarily to be corporate hotels, and with some time passed, we have built these hotels in leisure destination like Goa. If you look at the ibis network, 80% of an average is Indian market, while 20% is inbound travellers. It is more balanced when you go to a brand like Novotel where there is 60% of the Indian market and 40% of international travellers as its visitors who are mostly corporates. If you go to the Sofitel Mumbai BKC, 55% are International travellers while 45% are Indian visitors. But, crucially India has been an important market to us, as we see a lot of Indian corporates visiting our hotels for our exceptional MICE facilities provided, for example- Novotel Hyderabad that was opened in 2006-2007, till date we are the only International Convention/ Exhibition Centre, Conference Centre in India where major international, as well as Indian ministerial conferences, have been conducted. We have opened a Convention Centre in Lavasa and are already having one of the biggest convention centers with sea-view in the Novotel property in Vizag. We also have the Novotel Pullman Combo Hotel in Aerocity Delhi together with 700 rooms, along with a big convention center – Ballroom for conducting big events within its close vicinity to the Delhi Airport. So we are very active in MICE in terms of service and quality.”
