Focusing on the theme of “Tomorrow Begins Now” with the tagline ‘Rise Above Routine’, the Indian Travel Congress 2016, the annual convention of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), saw delegates being educated about the rapidly evolving scenarios in the travel industry and the advanced demand approaches of the travellers. This 63rd Convention and Exhibition of TAAI was held in Abu Dhabi from October 14 to 16, 2016, which saw a participation of 700 delegates from the travel trade industry.

With extended support from Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA), TAAI organised this convention at the ‘Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi’. The convention laid the foundation for partnership between India and Abu Dhabi, and desired to inspire
the Indian travel trade industry to develop healthy and prosperous B2B relations for future.
The Convention was inaugurated by Neeta Bhushan, Acting Ambassador of India to Abu Dhabi, Saif Saeed Ghobash, Director General, TCA and Sunil Kumar R, President, TAAI. Kumar remarked that “organising a Convention of such huge magnitude in less than 40 days strongly reflects the team work done by TAAI and invaluable support from the partners in the industry. The success of the event is a strong attribute of TAAI and its eminence.”
At the Convention, TAAI conferred three awards to prominent members of the trade fraternity. Zubin Karkaria, CEO, VFS Global, was conferred with ‘TAAI’s Award of Distinction’ for his outstanding leadership and growth in the industry. Dev Karvat, MD, TrawellTag Cover-More was presented the ‘TAAI’s Awards of Excellence’
for his most significant contribution to the industry and Shyam Nijhawan, Chairman, Nijhawan Group was presented the ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ for his decades of contribution and support to the industry.
The 63rd Convention of TAAI featured the “Knowledge Sessions” dedicated to the theme of Convention thereby encouraging the delegates to embrace change and be prepared for fast evolving times.

Besides, the India Travel Trade Expo (ITTE) was also organised at the Convention which offered a B2B platform to the visiting delegates to connect with vendors from across the globe.
The Farewell Gala Dinner was organised for the delegates attending TAAI Convention at the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, hosted by Yas Island.
