TravelBiz Monitor offers a glimpse into annual feature, which showcases the best of france to world

French tourism industry’s top international B2B trade show, Rendez-vous en France (RDVF) returned to Paris at Porte de Versailles in 2018. Atout France, the tourism development agency of France, in partnership with the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Paris Region Tourist Bureau organised the biggest trade market place for French tourism professionals to interact and transact business deals. RDVF, an annual feature serves as an opportunity for French professionals to fill their order books. This time the event saw presence of 950 tour operators from 69 countries. The goal for the French tourism industry is to further bolster the increase in international tourism that took place in 2017. It also serves as an opportunity for French destinations to promote their tourist offerings, and this year, 13 regions organised 40 familiarisation trips for 350 tour operators.

During the two days of the event, nearly 24,656 meetings were undertaken for duration of 20 minutes each. According to Christian Mantei, Managing Director, Atout France, “In a highly competitive environment, marked by a resurgence in tourism in France, this event represents a Reunique opportunity for the 750 French exhibitors to promote and sell their products to a high-quality international panel of buyers”.

The exhibiting 750 French tourism professionals, including tourist site mangers, hotel directors, suppliers, and promotional agencies, showcased their products in 10,300 sq mtr of exhibition space. Since the event was held in Paris, 179 exhibitions were from the Île-de-France region.

To facilitate participation, a special website was created for tour operators to identify themselves and describe what they’re looking for. By specifying the services and destinations they usually book, as well as those they would like to schedule in the future, exhibitors and buyers could identify themselves to ensure effective meetings.

RDVF 2018 was very well organised, and for the pre-event tour we visited destinations like Toulouse and Lourdes which are totally unexplored by Indians. Since the tour delegation was a mix of nationalities, it was wonderful to explore places with a group of this sort. Also, the event was a good opportunity to meet various suppliers and the stay was closer to the convention centre so the entire process was hassle-free. The meeting slots were confirmed well in advance. Most of the exhibitors were senior leadership and decision-makers so I could meet many new suppliers and rekindle associations with old ones.

This year the FAM organised by RDVF as well as the scheduled meetings in Paris were both exceptional. The meetings were well organised with partners in France and with those partners with whom I have a particular interest, so the meetings were very beneficial to me. I met local DMCs, transporters, interesting shows, interesting outlets, famous shopping stores, and local tourist offices. I have already started working with some of them since I returned from RDVF. The season has started well this year and I am very keen to promote France to my clients.

This was my second Rendezvous in two years and it did not fail to exceed my expectations. All arrangements were in place right from the pre-famil to the departure after the event. The venue was apt for this kind of event with good access and spacious enough for the large amount of exhibitors. The selection of exhibitors was excellent, representing all the regions of France and catered to all types of travellers, and all genres of offerings. A special mention to the Atout France India team for taking the extra effort to make sure the Indian delegation was well taken care, like booking the accommodation close to the venue and also looking after any special meal preferences. On a whole it is a great platform that showcases France with all its tourism offerings.

This was my first Rendezvous and I was really happy with the event. Right from the time I had to select my appointments (the website was excellent, giving both the buyers and the exhibitors apt information), to the discussions and the post event follow ups. We came back with a bank of information and we really hope to put it all to use in the year to come. The website which was created for the event was very well planned. They had put in all the necessary information that both buyers and exhibitors need to take appointments. This helped us shortlist who we had to meet, based on the area of work we planned to, in 2018. The only downside, if I must point one out, was that the meetings aren’t organised as per the stall number. It really wasn’t a big thing when you look back on the information and knowledge you come back with, after the successful two days.
