MVT: A journey towards 7,000 partners & counting

My Value Travel (MVT) hosted its MVT Mega Awards 2019 onboard India's first premium cruise liner, Jalesh Crusies with partners participating from 40 cities across India. The idea of undertaking a promotional sailing on a cruise ship was intended to drive every partner to meet their ROI in time for the event, says Deepak Agarwal, MD, MVT. Samruddhi Chitnis reports.

My Value Travel (MVT) made an impactful noise among the travel fraternity across India by conducting MVT Mega Awards 2019 onboard Karnika, the first ship of premium cruise brand, Jalesh Crusies. Deepak Agarwal, MD, MVT, said, "The idea of going for a promotional sailing on cruise for MVT Mega Awards 2019 was with intention of doing something that the industry will recall time and again. It has to be an event where each and every participant including hotels, travel agents must meet their ROI (Return on Investment). In this case, time is the biggest investment that the partners are making."

The event hosted partners from 40 cities across India. Top 100 best performers were awarded from these cities, out of which 15 gained special mentions as All India National Awards for partners that have generated good business for MVT.

Throwing light on the sentiment of the industry against the backdrop of economic slowdown, Agarwal said, "I understand from the travel and trade fraternity that the first half of 2019 was in the doldrums for most of the companies. Fortunately, for MVT the picture has not been that bad. We haven't grown, but neither have we regressed. There has been certain period of the year where the pace had slowed down in terms of business opportunities as compared to 2018, but then there have been months that have balanced out the entire situation," said Agarwal.

Despite being an online platform with no in-house sales force, MVT today has 7,000 partners across India. Out of 7,000 partners, 2,500 from across 155 cities in India have created business opportunities for the company. "From 70 agents in 2009 from the time MVT became completely B2B, we have now grown to 7,000 partners in last 10 years without having a single sales and marketing team," he said.

The journey of creating a strong partner network was never strategic, Agarwal said. The biggest challenge in any industry is the staff turnover, which turned into a blessing for MVT.

Being a destination expert for Mauritius in the last 20 years, MVT has added Maldives to its portfolio in April 2018 and Bali in March 2019, respectively. Agarwal said, "Since Maldives was added in April 2018, it will take some time to pick up the momentum. We received good numbers during the off season, far better in absolute terms as a company."

From the product expansion point of view, MVT will be aggressively adding more destinations. Agarwal commented, "We are looking forward to multi-city experiential destinations. Egypt, Turkey, South Africa are going to be the next destinations." The online systems of MVT have now the capability of doing a 10-city customised package booking on one click, and an agent can come and book a whole itinerary. For the business development side, we have started hiring across India," he added.

The awards programme was graced by a total of 150 people, including 110 companies and exhibitors, 14 from Mauritius, 7 from Maldives, 2 activity partners and 1 theme park. "We will continue the awards ceremony for sure in the coming years. Rather it will be of much larger, bigger and better event next year," exclaimed Agarwal.
