GPS-Pune Establishes a Concrete Foothold



Global Panorama Showcase (GPS) 2019 concluded in Pune on August 30 with an encouraging response from exhibitors and buyers from the city and its surrounds.. "This was the third year of GPS in Pune and now this city has become a part and parcel of our event calendar with the industry encouragement and support," said Raju Akolkar, CEO, GPS.

According to Harmandeep Singh Anand, Co-Founder, GPS, with an "overwhelming response" for all the editions with registrations and participations crossing the 7,000-mark.

The quality for buyers that attended GPS was one significant improvement this year. "The active participation of buyers and exhibitors made it evident that GPS is well established and well accepted platform for the travel industry today. The exhibitors seems to be overwhelmed with the kind of business opportunities they have gained," added Akolkar.



Anand informed, "An effective measure GPS is initiating for smaller Tier-II and Tier-III is the Eco Connect GPS i.e. one day format of the show wherein half day is dedicated to knowledge sessions, and other half for B2B followed by a networking dinner. "This is to reach small Tier-II and III cities where hosting a large scale event is not feasible. This year we have selected 4 cities viz. Indore, Guwahati, Vishakhapatnam and Jaipur." He said, "Eco Connect would complement GPS itself. GPS being well established in past few years has received huge demand to conduct it in these smaller cities."

The event count of GPS combined with the Eco Connect programme is 12. "It is not practical to have more than 12 events a year. Time constraint and off season for key concerns in planning the schedule so that travel agents can actively participate in the event. Also, organising an event of such a scale is a big task which is why enough gap between two GPS events is a must," said Akolkar.



Apart from this, the Educational Destination Workshop - International (EDWIN) programme has gained momentum with the progress of GPS. "The basic motive of GPS is to educate and empower the travel fraternity. EDWIN is one step ahead to the foundation of GPS." he said. "EDWIN is not a FAM trip, but it is well panned with lot of activities where the agents get well versed with the destinations and become experts. It also involves half day of B2B in that particular destination," he added.



Like every year, GPS would be reformulating its strategies and plans for 2020. The dates for GPS 2020 have been announced as January 27 and 28. "There are chances they might be alterations in the cities that we conduct GPS next year. The team of GPS will have board meetings immediately after the GPS Nagpur for scheduling the calender for GPS 2020."
