GPS Kochi & Kolkata, Going from Strength to Strength

Global Panorama Showcase (GPS) in Kolkata and Kochi this year similar to its other series in 6 cities witnessed an encouraging turnout. The event also gave a platform to the first-time buyers to meet with their counterparts and suppliers exhibiting at the event from different parts of the country as well as national tourism boards on a single platform.

Harmandeep Singh Anand, Co-Founder, GPS said, "GPS Kolkata and Kochi has received tremendous response this year. We had 1,000+ registrations, and visitors throughout the day for meetings. It is about the quality of agents that are participating and destinations from far and wide that are exhibiting. The GPS app has also matured and well accepted among the trade fraternity."

GPS covered almost 160-170 regional surrounding cities around Kolkata and Kochi. "We have had 150-170 agents' between Kochi and Kolkata. Overall, good business has transpired through at each of these events," he said.

Educating the travellers is important because they are no more just travel agents rather their roles have transformed to being professional consultants. "Today, travel agents will get paid for their knowledge and not for presenting something that is easily available online," informed Anand.

With the KIT (Knowledge, Inspiration and Training) sessions scheduled on first half of Day one, GPS launched three initiatives viz. Rainwater harvesting, responsible and sustainable tourism and do's don'ts for educating the travellers. "We have provided 3 videos of ixigo to the travel agents that can be used to educate their clients," said Anand.

GPS has also launched Edwin Ladakh which is already in action and now, is working with Edwin Zanzibar. Anand said, "In next 5 to 6 years of time GPS plans to target 25 destinations as a part of the Edwin calendar."

The Eco Connect event also termed as 1 day GPS from September 15 will be conducted in Indore, Jaipur, Guwahati and Vishakhapatnam.

"GPS has been an e-event for 4 years now and we hope to be a green event by 2020," said Anand.

The dates of GPS 2020 have already been announced in Nagpur from January 27-28. "Overall with a mix of exhibitors right from tourism boards, DMC's, hotels chains, different products related to travel like insurance and the participation of players of travel and tourism industry GPS Kolkata & Kochi was a successful one," added Anand.
